69-year-old man pulled out a gun after the man he knew his wife had a years-long affair with approached to talk to her and shot him to death; charged

Florida – In a horrifying act of deadly violence in Florida, a 69-year-old man, identified as O. Aguila, has been arrested and charged after fatally shooting his wife’s years-long lover during a confrontation at a parking lot of a shopping center. Authorities say the man, a convicted felon barred from owning a firearm, executed the shooting over a year after discovering the affair, in front of his family, after the lover approached his wife for a talk. Aguila is now facing charges of second-degree murder with a weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon following the July 12 killing. He is currently being held without bond at a correctional center with a court date scheduled for this week.

According to investigators, the case traces back to 2019, when Aguila’s wife began an affair with the victim, whose name has not been publicly released. Aguila reportedly learned of the affair in April 2024 and urged his wife to end it. Tensions escalated just days before the shooting when the victim showed up at Aguila’s home to speak with her. That confrontation left Aguila on edge.

On July 12, Aguila accompanied his wife and son to the shopping center. The victim came to deliver food to a friend while they were there. Before leaving, he attempted to speak with Aguila’s wife again. According to reports, Aguila’s son alerted him to what was happening. Aguila made his way to the victim’s car on a mobility scooter. A brief but heated argument erupted. Within seconds, Aguila pulled out a handgun and shot the man multiple times at close range.

Surveillance video captured the violent incident, which unfolded in broad daylight. The sheriff’s deputies arrived at the shopping center to find the victim inside his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward. At the scene, Aguila initially claimed self-defense, telling deputies that the victim had a firearm inside his vehicle. Despite the shooting, Aguila was briefly released after his statement while investigators gathered evidence.

Detectives later determined that the victim was unarmed, as video footage from security cameras, combined with forensic evidence and witness accounts, contradicted Aguila’s claims. On Thursday, nearly two weeks after the killing, detectives arrested him and charged him with murder. Adding to the severity of the charges, authorities confirmed that Aguila is a convicted felon and therefore legally prohibited from possessing any firearm. His decision to carry and ultimately use a gun not only cost a man his life but now also ensures harsher legal consequences for Aguila himself. He now faces not only a murder charge but also a felon-in-possession charge, compounding the case against him.

Aguila remains behind bars without bond as his case moves forward. Prosecutors are expected to pursue the maximum penalty allowable under Florida law, citing the deliberate nature of the act and his criminal record. The tragedy has left the victim’s family devastated and a community stunned. A deadly confrontation, born out of betrayal and jealousy, has now destroyed two families: one that mourns a lost life and another that faces the reality of a loved one spending the rest of his life behind prison walls. The case stands as yet another reminder of how unchecked anger, combined with easy access to firearms, can turn a moment of confrontation into irreversible tragedy.
