Mother of 2 died after her husband with whom she had a loud argument pointed the gun at her as she was coming in the roomand shot her in the chest; husband arrested

Colorado – In a shocking incident in Colorado, a 36-year-old man, identified as D. O’Grady, has been arrested for the murder of his 29-year-old wife, identified as T. Last, after a heated argument inside their home turned deadly. O’Grady now faces charges of first-degree murder and domestic violence after allegedly pointing a loaded firearm at his wife and pulling the trigger just as she entered the room. The bullet struck her in the chest, killing her instantly.

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of September 7 at the couple’s home, with their two young daughters—ages 6 and 4—sleeping in a nearby bedroom. According to the arrest affidavit, O’Grady told authorities that he had accidentally fired the weapon while “clearing his gun,” but investigators say his own words contradicted that claim. When police arrived around 7:45 a.m., they found Last lying on her back, cold and unresponsive. Rigor mortis had already set in. O’Grady told the dispatcher he had accidentally shot her the night before and attempted CPR for “about an hour” before calling 911.

But his story quickly unraveled under scrutiny. O’Grady allegedly admitted to investigators that he and Last had been in a loud verbal argument. He acknowledged knowing the gun was loaded. At one point, he fired a round into their bed. Then, as Last entered the room during the fight, he turned and aimed the gun at her—firing a single shot that hit her in the chest.

Their children, sleeping just across a narrow hallway, woke up when they heard the commotion. According to police, the girls told investigators they heard yelling and a loud “bang” that made them jump out of bed. They also said they saw their father throw something at their mother before she collapsed onto the bed with her arms raised. Investigators noted signs of a struggle, including broken objects scattered across the floor—items that were reportedly missing by the time police arrived. O’Grady’s mother was also inside the home, though there is no indication she witnessed the shooting. Authorities say O’Grady allowed officers into the house and cooperated during initial questioning, but his admissions led to his arrest. He is currently being held in custody without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 11.

Last was the mother of two young girls who are now left without both parents. Her aunt, who started a GoFundMe to help support the children, described the killing as “an unimaginable tragedy” and “a tragic act of domestic violence.” “She was a loving mother to her two beautiful little girls,” the fundraiser states. It also noted the heartbreaking detail that the youngest child’s birthday fell just days after the murder. “The unthinkable happened—their father was responsible for her death, and he is now incarcerated. This leaves these sweet girls without both of their parents.” What began as a household argument ended with devastating permanence. Now, a mother is gone, a father is behind bars, and two innocent children are left in the wreckage of a life violently broken apart.
