17-year-old pregnant girl died after her 20-year-old boyfriend she had an argument with shot her to death while she was on the phone with her mother; boyfriend charged

Tennessee – In a harrowing incident in Tennessee, a 17-year-old pregnant girl, identified as A. Finney, lost her life after her 20-year-old boyfriend, identified as A. Ramey, shot her during an argument moments after she had called her mother for help. The young mother-to-be was on the phone with her mom when the argument escalated and ended in gunfire. Now, Ramey is behind bars, facing serious charges for the deaths of both Finney and her unborn child.

According to the police department, Ramey has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide in connection with the killing of Finney, who was approximately two months pregnant with his child. Authorities say the fatal shooting took place on Sunday morning at Finney’s residence. Police reports indicate that Finney had called her mother shortly before the shooting, asking to be picked up from the house she shared with Ramey. During that call, Finney’s mother could hear an argument between the two before the line suddenly went dead. At nearly the same time, dispatchers received a hang-up 911 call, which prompted officers to respond to the address.

When police arrived, they found Finney in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital, but despite emergency efforts, the 17-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.  Authorities discovered signs of an argument inside the bedroom, where Finney was found critically wounded. Investigators believe the gun went off during a confrontation between the two, but they have not ruled out the possibility that the act was intentional.

Following the incident, Ramey reportedly turned himself in at the police department’s north precinct. During questioning, he admitted to being present and handling the gun when it discharged, killing Finney. He also told investigators that she was pregnant with his child. Authorities have confirmed there was no prior record of domestic violence between the couple. Ramey remains held on a $1 million bond, while police continue to gather additional evidence in the case.

In addition to the current homicide charges, court records show that Ramey had a prior criminal record. In March 2024, he was arrested on multiple charges, including aggravated burglary, carjacking, and aggravated assault. He was sentenced to four years of supervised probation just months before the fatal shooting. Investigators continue to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the gunfire. The case remains open as prosecutors prepare to move forward with the two homicide charges — one for Finney and another for the unborn baby she never got to meet.

A mother’s worst nightmare became reality in a matter of seconds — a call for help that ended in silence. Finney, a teenager with a new life growing inside her, was taken from her family in a burst of violence that police say could have been prevented. Now, the young man who once promised her love faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life behind bars.
