Fort Worth Public Library earns spot among top 20 percent of Texas libraries

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth Public Library has received the 2025 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award, an honor presented by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA). The award was formally announced during a Fort Worth City Council work session, where TMLDA President Michelle Cervantes praised the library’s achievements and dedication to the community.

Out of 545 public library systems across Texas, only 101 were selected for this year’s award, placing Fort Worth’s library in the top 20 percent statewide. This recognition celebrates the library system’s dedication to exceptional service and innovation in meeting the needs of Fort Worth residents.

In a letter announcing the award, Cervantes wrote, “Your application clearly demonstrated your commitment to providing exceptional service to your community. Congratulations on this accomplishment, and thank you for enriching the lives of your residents and providing your community with outstanding and innovative services.”

The City Council publicly recognized the Fort Worth Public Library staff and leadership for their continued commitment to excellence, applauding their impact on education, access, and public engagement through creative and community-centered programming.

Honoring Service and Innovation in Texas Libraries

The TMLDA, established in 1966, works to support the public library profession and elevate the quality of library services throughout Texas. By promoting ethical standards, advancing professional development, and recognizing outstanding achievements, the association ensures libraries continue to thrive and adapt to the evolving needs of their communities.

Award recipients are selected based on their ability to deliver high-quality programs tailored to the specific needs of the communities they serve. TMLDA highlights that each award-winning library emphasizes individual strengths and local priorities, whether in literacy, outreach, cultural engagement, or digital access.

With this distinction, the Fort Worth Public Library reaffirms its place as a leader in public service and a cornerstone of lifelong learning in the city.
