Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region launches mental health first aid training for adults working with youth
Dallas, Texas – In a time when mental health awareness is more important than ever, a Dallas-based nonprofit called Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region (CISDR) is stepping up with offering necessary training targeted at helping at-risk young people. Understanding the need for preventive mental health treatments, CISDR is providing a free training called Youth Mental Health First Aid, tailored especially for adults who deal closely with young people.
With more than 10,000 kids served across more than 100 schools in 12 districts, with a notable 61% of these students fulfilling state criteria that define them as “at-risk” of leaving school prematurely—a proportion that exceeds the state average by 7%, this program arrives at a critical time. The training is not only timely but also essential in tackling the mental health issues sometimes overlooked in learning settings.
Young Mental Health First Aid is to provide teachers, parents, and other adults the tools they need to identify and handle indicators of mental illness in children and adolescents. This instructional initiative complements the more general objective of helping children and their families to secure their welfare beyond the classroom.
The strong curriculum of the program covers many urgent subjects including anxiety, depression, drug misuse, disruptive behavior problems, and eating disorders. It not only clarifies common mental health concerns but also connects these observations with usual teenage growth phases, therefore improving participants’ capacity to spot possible indicators of a more serious condition.
The method of the training is one of its special features. It seeks to identify symptoms of anxiety and properly handle the matter using a well crafted 5-step action plan, not to teach participants to diagnose mental health disorders. This approach guarantees that adults may give quick and suitable support and offers a clear and efficient way for intervening in any mental health emergencies.

The next session of this transformative training is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23rd, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It includes eight hours of comprehensive training, with two hours of online pre-work required before attending the in-person session. The training is free, but registration is mandatory and available through CISDallas.org.
Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region not only emphasizes the need of mental health first aid but also enables the community to come together in support of its young people by offering these skills and information. This initiative marks a major progress toward creating a community ready to help its younger members through their most difficult circumstances.
