3-month-old girl hospitalized with fractured skull after her father, who was a fire chief, “lost his cool” because she was crying and threw her on the ground; father charged

Pennsylvania – In a deeply unsettling incident in Pennsylvania, a 36-year-old father, identified as B. Salt, has been charged with aggravated assault following a severe injury inflicted upon his three-month-old daughter. This shocking act of violence occurred after Salt became frustrated and lost his temper with the infant as she couldn’t stop crying.

On March 12, police were summoned to a children’s hospital, where they discovered that the young child had suffered a skull fracture on the right side of the rear of her head. According to Detective D. O’Connell from the police department, the baby also exhibited unexplained bleeding around the eye and marks on her legs. Medical staff and investigators initially received no clear explanation for the injuries from the child’s parents, which prompted further scrutiny by law enforcement.

During a subsequent interview with the authorities, Salt reportedly confessed to the act. He described a day when his daughter, who had colic, was inconsolable while his wife was at work. Salt said he “lost his cool” and forcibly removed his daughter from a swing and threw her to the ground. This confession led to his immediate arrest.

Following his arrest, Salt, who serves as a fire chief in Pennsylvania and is also a paid firefighter/EMT, faced immediate administrative actions. The fire department issued a statement confirming that Salt had been suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. They expressed their commitment to transparency and community safety during this challenging time and extended their thoughts and prayers to the Salt family. The township officials noted that Salt had passed all requisite background checks prior to his employment.

Salt is currently detained, held on 10% of a $500,000 bail. He faces charges of aggravated assault, with the potential for additional charges as the investigation continues. This case has underscored the serious consequences of caregiver stress and the crucial need to seek assistance before reaching a critical stage.

Detective O’Connell’s remarks underscored the tragedy of the situation, noting the severity of the infant’s injuries and the unexpected nature of such violence from a community servant. The community and Salt’s colleagues have been left in shock by the events, struggling to reconcile the actions of a respected fire chief with the violent behavior he displayed. As the legal proceedings continue, the community awaits further details and developments in this distressing case. The focus remains on the well-being of the injured child and the accountability of those involved in her care.
