Woman got angry with a 9-year-old boy for not doing household chores properly so she used a kitchen utensil to beat the boy, inflicting serious injuries; arrested

Florida – In a shocking incident in Florida, a 33-year-old woman, identified as D. Raymond, is facing serious criminal charges after assaulting a 9-year-old boy with a kitchen utensil, leaving the child with multiple injuries including a severe head wound and a broken finger. The incident, which authorities described as a case of extreme child abuse, has resulted in the woman being held without bond.

Raymond was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with one count of felony aggravated child abuse resulting in great bodily harm, according to court records. Officials allege Raymond severely injured the young boy following her anger over how he had washed the dishes at their Miami residence. The police department responded to the scene around 6 p.m. on Sunday, after receiving reports of possible child abuse at a home. Upon arrival, officers encountered the injured 9-year-old, who bravely recounted the violent events to the authorities.

According to the probable cause affidavit obtained by local news outlets, the boy explained that Raymond became enraged over his dishwashing efforts. In a fit of anger, Raymond allegedly grabbed a kitchen pot and struck the boy on the head, causing a “large laceration to his scalp,” police reported. The affidavit further details that Raymond was not finished punishing the child. She allegedly ordered him to place his hand on the kitchen table and then struck it with the pot, breaking his middle finger. Not stopping there, Raymond reportedly continued the brutal assault, hitting the boy’s arms, back, and eventually kicking him in the stomach. Officers documented visible marks across the child’s body.

Following the assault, Raymond was interviewed by detectives. However, the contents of her interview were redacted from public records. The relationship between Raymond and the young victim has not been disclosed by authorities. After her arrest at the scene, Raymond was booked into the correctional center, where she remains held without bond. She formally pleaded not guilty to the felony child abuse charge during a court appearance on Wednesday. She is scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday morning.

Authorities emphasized the severity of the child’s injuries, describing the physical abuse as resulting in great bodily harm. The case has sparked outrage among community members and underscores the importance of vigilance in reporting suspected child abuse. The police department continues to investigate the incident. Child protective services have likely been notified to ensure the victim receives proper care and protection moving forward.

Cases like this are tragic reminders of the hidden abuse that some children endure behind closed doors. Advocates are calling for swift justice to protect the victim and to prevent similar cases from occurring in the future. Raymond faces a potential lengthy prison sentence if convicted on the charges. The gravity of the allegations has led to significant media attention, highlighting the ongoing challenges in safeguarding vulnerable children from domestic violence.
