Fort Worth Recreation Department launches summer program for teens ages 13 to 17 to help them develop leadership and communication skills

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department is offering an exciting opportunity for teenagers who want to spend their summer building important life skills while having fun. The Rec Leader In Training (RLIT) Program is open to teens ages 13 to 17 and aims to provide a rewarding leadership experience at an affordable price.
For a fee of just $75 for the entire summer, participants will be immersed in an eight-week program, plus an orientation week, where they will shadow experienced camp counselors, assist with daily activities, and take part in hands-on experiences designed to help them grow into strong leaders.
Teens enrolled in the program will focus on several core areas of personal development. They will work on leadership, by building confidence and learning how to lead by example. Responsibility will be emphasized, as participants will take on meaningful tasks and learn to become reliable team members. Character building is also a key focus, helping teens strengthen their integrity and decision-making skills.
Participants will also be introduced to customer service skills, enhancing their ability to communicate and solve problems effectively. The program stresses the importance of ethical behavior, teaching honesty, fairness, and responsible decision-making. In addition, teens will gain a deeper understanding of diversity and mutual respect, learning how to work with people from different backgrounds and create an inclusive environment.
“This program is an excellent opportunity for teens to gain hands-on experience, make lifelong friends and develop essential skills that will benefit them in any future career path,” organizers explained. Participants will also enjoy a supportive team atmosphere, fun activities, and a free field trip included in the program.
Key program details include an Orientation Week from June 4 to June 6, where teens will engage in classroom management, activity facilitation, interactive training sessions, guest speaker events, games, food, and more. The main program runs from June 9 through August 1, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The $75 fee covers registration, a volunteer shirt, swag, and the cost of one exciting field trip, making it a valuable and affordable way for teens to build leadership skills over the summer.
