Sherman man with history of violent crimes receives lengthy sentence for firearms offense

Sherman, Texas – A convicted felon from Sherman will spend the next 15 years in federal prison after a firearms incident in 2022 led to a serious federal charge. Mouaidad Mohamad, 30, was sentenced to 180 months by U.S. District Judge Sean D. Jordan on May 9, 2025, after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The sentencing was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr., who emphasized the risk posed by armed felons and the commitment of the Eastern District of Texas to prosecuting these offenses.

Gunfire Leads to Arrest and Federal Charges

According to court documents and testimony, on August 5, 2022, law enforcement officers in Sherman responded to a shots fired call. Investigators learned that Mohamad had fired two rounds from the window of a vehicle before forcing his girlfriend to drive away from the scene. Authorities located him later the same day in the same vehicle, where he was taken into custody.

A background check revealed Mohamad had multiple felony convictions, including robbery and burglary of a habitation. Because of his criminal history, federal law prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition.
