62-year-old woman wrapped her hands around her minor granddaughter’s neck, trying to strangle her, just because she thought the girl stole the drugs she kept in her home; charged

Louisiana – In a shocking incident in Louisiana, a 62-year-old grandmother, identified as M. Pattum, is facing a long list of serious charges after allegedly trying to strangle her own granddaughter during an altercation over missing drugs. Authorities say Pattum attacked the juvenile girl, claiming the child had stolen her methamphetamine. Pattum now faces multiple drug-related charges, firearm violations, and a serious allegation of domestic violence.

The disturbing incident unfolded on June 12, 2025, around 4:30 p.m., when officers with the police department responded to a reported disturbance in the elderly woman’s home. According to police, the call came from a juvenile girl who told dispatchers that her grandmother had wrapped her hands around her neck and strangled her after accusing her of stealing drugs. When officers arrived on scene and began their investigation, the shocking nature of the household quickly came to light. Detectives secured a search warrant for Pattum’s residence based on the alleged assault and her reported drug use. What they uncovered inside the home painted a dark picture.

According to a police statement, a wide range of illegal drugs were found inside the house. Officers located methamphetamine, crack cocaine, marijuana, and a variety of other narcotics in pill form, all categorized under Schedule I, II, and IV controlled substances. Alongside the narcotics, law enforcement also recovered three firearms, including one that had been reported stolen.

During a personal search of Pattum, officers discovered she was carrying a small metal container of suspected crack cocaine, which she openly admitted to using. But the situation didn’t end there. While being transported to the police department for booking, Pattum allegedly tried to hide more drugs. Authorities say she attempted to discard another container of what appeared to be crack cocaine by placing it behind the transport seat of the police vehicle.

The charges against Pattum quickly multiplied as investigators pieced together the evidence. She now faces the following charges: Possession of Schedule I narcotics, Four counts of possession of Schedule II narcotics, Four counts of possession of Schedule IV narcotics, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Two counts of possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, Obstruction of justice

While police also acknowledged the domestic violence incident involving her granddaughter, charges related specifically to the alleged strangling have not yet been confirmed but remain under investigation. The juvenile’s condition following the attack has not been made public, and the child’s identity has been withheld due to her age. Authorities say Pattum was booked and is being held on a $20,000 bond. The investigation is still active, and officials have not ruled out the possibility of more charges.

The case has shocked many in the community, with residents disturbed not only by the violent outburst against a child but also by the sheer volume of drugs and weapons found in the home. Social services are expected to be involved in the aftermath to ensure the juvenile is safe and receiving appropriate support. As of now, Pattum remains in custody, and her case is expected to proceed through the court system in the coming weeks. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information related to Pattum or this incident to contact the authorities.
