Texas outpaces the national average once again in job creation over the last twelve months

Austin, Texas – Texas has once again cemented its reputation as the national leader in job creation, adding more jobs than any other state both in the past month and over the past year, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Governor Greg Abbott proudly announced that the Lone Star State gained 28,100 nonfarm jobs in May 2025 alone and 213,300 new positions over the past 12 months.

With this latest boost, Texas has now added more than 2.53 million jobs since Governor Abbott took office, further strengthening its position as a powerhouse of economic growth.

Pro-Growth Policies Fuel Job Expansion

“Texas is America’s undisputed jobs engine,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas again leads the nation for the most jobs created over the last 12 months. Working with the Texas Legislature, we had the most successful legislative session that furthered pro-growth policies, expanding career and technical training programs and removing unnecessary regulatory barriers for businesses. The policies I signed into law mean more paychecks and more opportunities for Texas families to thrive.”

The surge in employment is supported by policies designed to foster economic opportunity, including investments in workforce development and regulatory reforms aimed at helping businesses grow. By focusing on reducing red tape and expanding technical education, Texas continues to attract a broad range of industries and employers.

Breaking Records and Driving Momentum

Governor Abbott recently highlighted the state’s continuing economic momentum, noting that Texas has again broken records for total jobs, the number of Texans working, and the size of the state’s labor force. These benchmarks reflect the confidence businesses have in Texas’ economic climate and the resilience of its workforce.

As national economic uncertainty persists, Texas’ consistent job growth stands out. The state’s ability to outperform national averages in employment growth speaks to the effectiveness of its policy direction and long-term planning.

With a growing workforce, steady investment in skills development, and ongoing support from state leadership, Texas remains a beacon of economic strength and opportunity.
