Resident Safety Measures
Although the Environmental Protection Agency has approved the insecticide, residents are urged to minimize exposure by staying indoors during spraying. Drivers should keep windows closed and the air conditioner on if near active spraying. Anyone coming into contact with the spray should wash the area thoroughly with soap and water. The insecticide breaks down quickly in sunlight and does not leave lasting effects.
Protect Yourself and Reduce Breeding Sites
Dallas health officials recommend that residents reduce outdoor activity during evening hours when mosquitoes are most active, wear long sleeves and pants, and apply mosquito repellent.
To prevent mosquito breeding, residents should eliminate standing water in places like birdbaths, pet dishes, clogged gutters, old tires, and unused containers. Free mosquito dunks are available at Code Compliance Services District Offices while supplies last.
Where to Get Help or Report Issues
Residents can report standing water or mosquito concerns by calling 3-1-1. To be added to the City of Dallas Do Not Spray list, residents should also contact 3-1-1.
