Tarrant County leaders to host Alzheimer’s Education Seminar focused on caregiver support and dementia awareness

Fort Worth, Texas – Commissioner Roderick Miles, Jr. is inviting the community to participate in the 10th Annual Healthy Lives Matter Alzheimer’s Education Seminar, a vital event aimed at providing education and resources for families, caregivers, and professionals navigating the challenges of Alzheimer’s and dementia care.

Founded by the Honorable Roy Charles Brooks, the Healthy Lives Matter and Alzheimer’s Initiative was established to ensure that individuals living with dementia—and the families who care for them—receive the guidance, tools, and compassion needed to improve their quality of life.

The free seminar will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus (300 Trinity Campus Circle, Fort Worth, TX 76102).

A Day of Learning and Support

This year’s seminar promises to deliver critical insights into Alzheimer’s disease progression, along with practical strategies for handling the daily challenges that caregivers and loved ones often face. Among its highlights is the Dementia Live Experience, an interactive program designed to cultivate empathy by helping participants understand the realities of living with dementia. This unique experience aims to improve the quality of visits and interactions with family members who are battling the disease.

Attendees will also receive updates on the latest research and treatment options while gaining new tools for care management. The event’s commitment to accessibility includes the opportunity for continuing education units (CEUs) for nurses, social workers, certified case managers, and licensed professional counselors, making it a valuable resource for professionals as well.

Addressing a Growing Need in Texas

The urgency of events like this cannot be overstated. In Texas, the number of residents aged 65 and older living with Alzheimer’s is projected to climb dramatically—from 400,000 in 2021 to 490,000 by 2025, representing a staggering 22.5 percent increase. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, dementia-related deaths in Texas surged, with 4,778 more deaths than expected, a 25.9 percent increase over the average, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.

These alarming figures highlight the pressing need for education, early intervention, and community support, all of which this seminar aims to provide.

The seminar is free to attend, but registration is required. Those interested can secure their spot online at www.tarrantcountytx.gov/alzevent.
