31-year-old woman, who traveled over 1,000 miles for a “woman-to-woman talk” with her ex-boyfriend’s new partner before fatally stabbing her dozens of times, could face life in prison

Florida – In a deeply disturbing case that spans from New York to Florida, a 31-year-old woman, identified as S. Thompson, who traveled more than a thousand miles to confront her ex-boyfriend’s new partner, 23-year-old K. Hodgson, in a meeting that ended in a brutal, fatal stabbing, could face life in prison if found guilty. Prosecutors say Thompson murdered Hodgson inside her apartment in Florida, stabbing her dozens of times in what they describe as a premeditated act of jealousy, and then traveled back to New York following the horrific crime she committed.
Thompson has been charged with first-degree murder, accused of flying from New York to South Florida in July 2022 with the intent to kill Hodgson. Authorities with the sheriff’s office allege that Thompson’s trip was not spontaneous but planned, fueled by resentment after discovering that her former boyfriend was romantically involved with Hodgson.
Prosecutors told the jury that Thompson’s jealousy escalated after Hodgson blocked her on social media, cutting off any communication. The suspect’s frustration, they argued, turned into obsession and violence. Days later, Thompson boarded a flight to Florida, tracked down Hodgson’s address at the apartment complex, and went there uninvited, supposedly seeking what she later called a “woman-to-woman” talk. Inside the apartment, that conversation turned deadly.
According to police and courtroom testimony, Thompson admitted to killing Hodgson but insisted it happened in self-defense. She claimed that the two began arguing about their shared relationship with the same man, and during the confrontation, Hodgson allegedly struck her and cut her with a piece of glass. Thompson, who was two months pregnant at the time, testified that after being cut, she “blacked out,” and upon regaining consciousness, found Hodgson already dead, her body lying in a pool of blood. Autopsy photos shown in court confirmed that Hodgson had been stabbed dozens of times, sustaining catastrophic injuries.
During her trial, Thompson took the stand in her own defense, admitting she killed Hodgson but maintaining that it was a reaction to being attacked. The prosecution, however, described the crime as deliberate, emphasizing that Thompson traveled across state lines, entered Hodgson’s home uninvited, and inflicted dozens of stab wounds — actions consistent with rage, not self-defense. Closing arguments concluded this week, and the jury has begun deliberations. If found guilty of first-degree murder, Thompson faces life in prison.
Meanwhile, Hodgson’s family continues to grieve. In a statement shared on a fundraiser page, they wrote she “meant so much to so many people — she was an amazing daughter, a very loved and adored big sister, niece, granddaughter and cousin, whose bond was like no other. Everyone loved her tremendously, and she was a friend to all.” What began as a claimed “woman-to-woman” conversation became an act of unimaginable violence — a young woman’s life ended, and another’s future now hangs in the balance, awaiting the weight of justice.
