Texas leads the country in job creation with over 195,000 new jobs added in the past twelve months according to new data

Austin, Texas – Texas has once again cemented its reputation as a national leader in job creation, with Governor Greg Abbott proudly announcing a significant employment milestone. According to August data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Texas Workforce Commission, the Lone Star State added 195,600 nonfarm jobs between August 2024 and August 2025 — more than any other state in the country.

“Texas is America’s jobs leader,” Governor Abbott declared. “With the best business climate in the nation and a skilled and growing labor force, Texas is where businesses invest, jobs grow, and families thrive. Texas will continue to cut red tape and invest in businesses large and small to spur the economic growth of communities across our great state.”

The August numbers reflect a strong and growing economy. Texas set a new record with 14,347,700 total nonfarm jobs, thanks to a monthly addition of 17,600 positions — once again, the highest gain of any state. The state also recorded an all-time high labor force with 15,857,300 workers, while 15,213,500 Texans were reported working, including those self-employed.

Notably, Texas outpaced the national job growth rate by 0.5%, further highlighting its leading position in the economic landscape of the United States.

New Initiatives to Cut Regulation and Expand Workforce Training

Governor Abbott’s office also spotlighted several policy developments aimed at sustaining this economic momentum. Earlier in the week, the Governor named the new Director of the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO). This office was established with a mission to streamline state regulations by identifying and eliminating unnecessary rules that slow down business growth. TREO will also work to develop best practices for state agencies to ensure smoother, more efficient operations.

In addition to regulatory reform, the Governor emphasized education and workforce development. He ceremonially signed House Bill 20 and House Bill 120, which aim to expand career and technical education (CTE) opportunities for students across Texas. These bills are designed to better prepare the next generation of Texas workers by equipping them with the practical skills needed in high-demand industries.

Governor Abbott continues to push for policies that support both economic freedom and long-term prosperity. By focusing on workforce expansion, regulatory efficiency, and educational access, his administration seeks to ensure that Texas not only remains competitive but thrives as a beacon of opportunity for families and businesses alike.

With record-breaking job numbers and continued focus on economic development, Texas remains firmly at the forefront of national job creation — a trend that shows no sign of slowing.
