Fort Worth public libraries partner with fire department to provide free CPR and AED training throughout February

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth Public Library system, in collaboration with the Fort Worth Fire Department, is offering free hands-only CPR and AED training at several library locations throughout February. This initiative aligns with American Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular health and emergency response.

Free Life-Saving Training for Teens and Adults

The classes are open to teens and adults and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis with no registration required. While the training is not a certification course, it aims to teach essential life-saving skills that can be used in emergencies.

Fire Chief Jim Davis emphasized the importance of knowing CPR, stating: “Knowing how to perform hands-only CPR and use life-saving tools like AEDs can make a difference in the critical minutes before first responders arrive. I’m proud we are offering this type of training to the public at no cost.”

Why Hands-Only CPR and AED Training Matters

According to the American Heart Association, administering CPR immediately can double or triple the chances of survival for someone experiencing cardiac arrest. Quick and accurate AED use further increases survival rates by helping restore a normal heart rhythm.

Library Director Midori Clark expressed enthusiasm for the expanded training sessions, stating: “The response to our free, fall CPR classes was incredible, and we wanted more people to have the chance to learn these life-saving skills. So, what better time than Heart Month?”
