City of Dallas and Dallas Wings team up to build groundbreaking practice center for professional and community use

Dallas, Texas – The City of Dallas is partnering with the Dallas Wings WNBA team to begin construction on a brand-new, state-of-the-art practice facility at Joey Georgusis Park in West Dallas/Oak Cliff. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the park, located at 1200 Stone Mesa Drive.
The event will bring together city councilmembers, park board officials, city leadership, Dallas Wings executives, chambers of commerce, and community leaders, who will gather to mark the beginning of a project that is expected to significantly benefit both the Dallas Wings and the broader community.
A Facility Designed for Both the Pros and the People
The upcoming facility is set to become the permanent training home of the Dallas Wings, designed with professional-grade amenities and equipped with everything the team needs for daily preparation and player development. But the benefits of the facility go well beyond the WNBA team.
“The new facility is designed to benefit both professional athletes and the community, offering separate multipurpose spaces for youth programs, local athletics, and special events.”
Key features of the complex will include:
-
Professional-grade basketball training courts and equipment
-
Multipurpose community spaces for youth and recreation
-
Player wellness and recovery facilities
-
Media and press accommodations
This dual-purpose design ensures that the Wings’ presence in Oak Cliff will also open up lasting opportunities for youth engagement, recreation, and community involvement across the city. The new facility is expected to be completed before the start of the 2026 WNBA season.
A Public-Private Partnership with Community Impact
Described as a major public-private partnership, the Dallas Wings practice facility is part of a broader effort to solidify Dallas’s growing role as a center for women’s professional sports. At the same time, the city aims to use the project as a tool for community enrichment, by investing in infrastructure that supports both elite sports and neighborhood-level participation.
As anticipation builds for the opening, both city officials and Dallas Wings leadership expressed their enthusiasm about the impact this new development will have.
“The facility will serve as the permanent practice and training home of the Dallas Wings. Designed to benefit both professional athletes and the community, the facility will have state-of-the-art amenities for professional athletic training and offer separate multipurpose spaces for youth programs, local athletics, and special events.”
With construction set to begin immediately following the groundbreaking ceremony, the project is another step forward in Dallas’s efforts to build strong ties between its sports institutions and local neighborhoods—starting right in the heart of West Dallas.
