Dallas police arrest 21-year-old suspect accused of three drive by shootings and armed carjacking in 2024

Dallas, Texas – Dallas police have arrested a young man accused of being involved in multiple drive-by shootings as well as an armed carjacking that took place in 2024. Investigators say the arrest followed months of investigative work after officers responded to a series of dangerous incidents that placed residents at risk.
The Dallas Police Department announced that its Gang Unit arrested 21-year-old Nehemiah Drake, who had been wanted in connection with three drive-by shootings and additional charges linked to a separate robbery involving a stolen vehicle. Authorities said the suspect now faces several felony charges after investigators gathered evidence tying him to the crimes.
Multiple Drive-By Shootings Within One Hour
According to police, the violent events began on the evening of June 11, 2024, when officers from the Gang Unit responded to three shooting scenes that occurred within roughly one hour of each other. The incidents happened in different areas of the city, raising immediate concern among investigators.
The shootings were reported at the 6800 block of Nandina Drive, the 1400 block of McKenzie Street, and the 4200 block of Willow Springs Lane. At each location, witnesses told police that suspects fired multiple shots from a vehicle while driving past.
Investigators later determined that the attacks involved an extraordinary amount of gunfire. Authorities said nearly 300 rounds had been fired across the three incidents. Despite the scale of the violence, detectives continued working leads in the weeks that followed in an effort to identify the person responsible.
Armed Carjacking Leads to Key Evidence
The investigation took a major turn just a few weeks later. On June 23, 2024, Dallas police responded to reports of a robbery in progress in the 3300 block of Junction Street.
Officers learned that several suspects had stolen a vehicle at gunpoint. The situation escalated further when the stolen car was later involved in a crash.
After the vehicle was recovered, officers searched the car and made a significant discovery. Inside the vehicle, police located a pistol equipped with a machine gun conversion device, a modification that can dramatically increase the firing rate of a firearm.
Detectives then conducted forensic testing on the weapon. Investigators said the results were critical to the case. Evidence linked Drake to the firearm, and ballistic testing also connected the weapon to the earlier drive-by shootings that occurred on June 11.
Based on that evidence, Drake was charged with three counts of Deadly Conduct – Discharge Firearm, which is classified as a third-degree felony. He also faces an additional third-degree felony charge for Prohibited Weapon related to the modified firearm found in the crashed vehicle.
Police officials emphasized that the arrest reflects the department’s commitment to pursuing suspects involved in violent crime, even if investigations take months to complete.
“The safe apprehension of this violent impact offender reflects the Dallas Police Department’s unwavering commitment to public safety,” said Major Andre Taylor, the commander of the Tactical Investigations Division. “If you put others in danger, you will be held accountable, no matter how long it takes to find you.”
Authorities say the case remains an example of how forensic evidence, ballistic analysis, and persistent investigative work can help connect violent incidents and identify suspects. Investigators also noted that the Gang Unit continued pursuing leads after the shootings, ultimately leading to the arrest tied to the series of incidents that had shaken multiple Dallas neighborhoods.
