“He ain’t abled”: Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett slammed online after appearing to mock Gov. Greg Abbott by suggesting he became part of the “DEI class” because of his wheelchair-bound condition in explosive new video

Texas – After already facing backlash over comments questioning whether the assassination attempt against President Donald Trump may have been staged, outgoing Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett is now facing another political firestorm — this time over remarks critics say openly mocked Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and his disability.

The controversy exploded after Crockett posted a video to X on Wednesday in which she spoke about Abbott’s paralysis while discussing diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

“It was a tree that ended up making [Abbott] a part of the DEI class, just so y’all know. He is DEI, yes, because he is uniquely-abled, or actually he ain’t abled, child,” Crockett said in the clip.

The comments immediately triggered outrage online, with critics accusing the congresswoman of mocking a man who has spent decades in a wheelchair after a devastating accident.

Abbott was left partially paralyzed at age 26 after a tree fell on him while he was jogging. The accident permanently damaged his spine and changed the course of his life. Crockett also referenced the legal settlement Abbott received after the incident, claiming he became “wealthy after legislation allowed him to sue.”

The governor’s office did not directly respond with a detailed statement when asked for comment. Instead, officials pointed reporters toward Abbott’s own social media response.

“Uniquely abled,” Abbott wrote on X alongside an AI-generated image showing him in a superhero costume while seated in his wheelchair.

Old controversy comes roaring back

The backlash quickly revived memories of Crockett’s earlier controversy involving Abbott last year.

In 2025, she sparked outrage after referring to the governor as “Governor Hot Wheels” during a public appearance.

“We in these hot a– Texas streets, honey. Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there, come on now! And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot a– mess, honey!” she said while laughing.

At the time, critics accused her of mocking Abbott’s disability. Crockett later defended herself and insisted her remarks were aimed at his immigration policies rather than his wheelchair use. She refused to apologize.

“I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition,” Crockett said afterward. “At no point did I mention or allude to his condition. So, I’m even more appalled that the very people who unequivocally support Trump—a man known for racially insensitive nicknames and mocking those with disabilities—are now outraged,” she added.

That explanation, however, did little to calm the outrage at the time, and the newest controversy has reopened the debate in even more dramatic fashion.

Social media erupts over latest remarks

The reaction online was immediate and brutal. Many users expressed confusion, anger, or disbelief over Crockett’s comments. Joe Concha mocked the congresswoman by posting, “‘I only mocked a paraplegic and suddenly people have a problem with me.’” Other users were equally stunned. “Uh. What.” one account wrote. “How does she think of this ridiculous stuff she says,” another person posted.

A popular X account also weighed in, writing: “DEI? Disgraced Jasmine Crockett claims Governor Abbott is a DEI hire as a result of his disability.” Others called the comments “low IQ” and accused Crockett of crossing a political line by bringing Abbott’s disability into the conversation once again.

The controversy arrives at a difficult moment for Crockett politically. Earlier this year, she launched a Senate campaign but failed to win the Democratic primary in March. She also chose not to seek reelection to her House seat, meaning her congressional career will officially end in 2027.

Despite that, Crockett has remained one of the Democratic Party’s most outspoken and controversial figures online, often generating viral reactions for her comments and confrontational political style.

This latest incident is now adding to a growing list of moments that have fueled intense reactions from both supporters and critics alike.

For Republicans and Abbott supporters, the comments reinforced accusations that Crockett repeatedly crosses personal lines in political attacks. For others, the controversy has become another example of how quickly political rhetoric can spiral into deeply personal territory in today’s online environment.

What began as another social media video has now turned into a nationwide political flashpoint — one that is once again placing Crockett at the center of fierce backlash and renewed scrutiny.
