Second largest Powerball jackpot in United States history shared by players in Texas and Missouri

Fredericksburg, Texas – A Texas Lottery player has claimed their place in the spotlight after purchasing a Powerball ticket worth approximately $410.3 million before taxes. The winning numbers — “11-23-44-61-62 and Powerball 17” — were selected by the player and matched exactly in the September 6 draw. The ticket was sold at Big’s 103, located at 11905 E. U.S. Highway 290 in Fredericksburg.

This monumental win is the largest prize ever involving a Texas Lottery player and marks the second-largest jackpot in Powerball and U.S. lottery history. Another jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Missouri, meaning the two winners will split the $1.8 billion annuitized prize.

Ticket Holder Has Yet to Claim the Historic Prize

Although the winning ticket has been confirmed, the Texas winner has not yet come forward. According to the rules, they have 180 days from the draw date to claim their prize. The ticket was purchased with the cash value option, guaranteeing the lump-sum payout of $410.3 million before taxes.

Courtney Arbour, executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), which now oversees the Texas Lottery, shared the department’s enthusiasm:

“We are thrilled that a Texas Lottery player holds one of the winning tickets for this remarkable Powerball jackpot,” said Arbour. “We look forward to congratulating the winner when they come forward to claim their prize and celebrating with the selling retailer, who is eligible to receive a bonus.”

The retailer, Big’s 103, is set to receive a $250,000 bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.

Arbour encouraged the mystery winner to sign the ticket, store it safely, and seek financial and legal advice before contacting the Texas Lottery to schedule a claim appointment.

Multiple Other Big Wins Across Texas

In addition to the headline-grabbing jackpot, three second-tier Powerball prizes were also won in Texas. A $2 million ticket was sold in Tyler, while $1 million tickets were sold in Austin and Midlothian.

These big wins are part of a growing trend in 2025, where 17 Texas Lottery players have already won second-tier Powerball prizes of $1 million or more — 10 of those just in this recent jackpot run.

Longest Jackpot Run Ends with Historic Win

The now-concluded jackpot began as a $20 million prize on June 2 and went on to become the longest jackpot run in Powerball history, spanning 42 consecutive drawings. The streak came to an end with the winning numbers drawn on Saturday night.

For the Saturday drawing alone, 763,860 winning tickets were purchased in Texas, with prize values ranging from $4 to the jackpot. Sales in Texas exceeded $43.8 million for that draw.

This win marks Texas’ third Powerball jackpot winner since the state joined the multistate game in 2010, and the first since February 2015, when an Austin resident shared a $564.1 million prize. Texas’ inaugural Powerball jackpot winner was from Bells, who claimed a $40 million prize in 2013.

A Tradition of Big Wins Continues

With this latest win, Texas has now seen at least one Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot winner each year for the last three years, further cementing its place in the U.S. lottery landscape.

The Powerball jackpot resets to $20 million for the next drawing on Monday, September 8, but the excitement surrounding the Fredericksburg win will likely continue for weeks — especially as Texans wait to see who steps forward to claim the life-changing prize.
