13-year-old boy died after his 13-year-old friend pointed a gun at him while they, along with 4 other minors, were “playing” with the weapon and fatally shot him before reporting attempted suicide

Indiana – In a disturbing turn of events in Indiana, a 13-year-old boy, whose identity has not been publicly released, was charged with murder following the fatal shooting of another 13-year-old boy, identified as J. Davis. The incident, which shook the local community and was initially reported as a suicide, occurred just after midnight on November 10, prompting an immediate response from the police department.

Upon their arrival at the scene, officers found 13-year-old Davis suffering from a critical gunshot wound. Davis was swiftly transported to the children’s hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The investigation quickly uncovered that six boys were present at the scene during the incident, including Davis and the alleged shooter. According to reports, the parents of one of the boys were at home but asleep in another part of the house at the time of the shooting. The details on whose parents they were or whether they owned the gun used in the shooting were not clarified in reports. As of now, these parents are not facing any criminal charges.

Initial reports from the police indicated that the boys were “playing” with the gun before the tragic incident unfolded. After the shooting, the suspect allegedly fled the scene but later called 911 to report that his friend had attempted suicide. Further investigation led to a more sinister conclusion, with reports suggesting the suspect had “pointed a firearm at the victim and shot him.”

Charged with murder and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, the young suspect is now being held at county’s juvenile detention facility. These charges are considered felonies and could lead to the suspect being tried as an adult, although this decision has yet to be made. A preliminary juvenile hearing is scheduled for today.

The shocking event prompted a response from Dr. T. Terhune, the superintendent of the school where some of the boys attended. In light of the tragedy, the school district has made counseling and support services available to students, emphasizing the importance of community and familial support during such difficult times. Following the incident, the schools opened with a two-hour delay, and all athletic activities were canceled for the day.

In a statement to families, Terhune stressed the need for open communication about the incident: “We encourage you to talk to your children about their feelings and any fears they may have. Reassuring them that they are safe and that we are here to support them is crucial. If your child needs someone to talk to, please do not hesitate to reach out to our school counselors.”

The county prosecutor, L. Hamner, hinted at the possibility of waiving the boy to adult court but has reserved making a decision until further proceedings. The nature of the shooting, whether accidental or intentional, remains under investigation, with Hamner expressing caution about discussing specific beliefs regarding the charges ahead of the initial hearing.

This case has not only devastated two families but also raised questions about gun safety and the responsibilities of gun owners, especially in households with children. As the community grapples with this tragedy, the focus remains on justice for Davis and support for all affected during this incredibly challenging time.
