City of Fort Worth adjusts waste collection schedules and adds free services for the holidays

Fort Worth, Texas – As the year winds down, Fort Worth residents are preparing for festive celebrations with family and friends. Along with the joy and togetherness comes the inevitable increase in household waste. To help accommodate this seasonal surge, the City of Fort Worth has announced a plan allowing extra garbage disposal options for residents without additional fees.

Free Extra Bag Pickup Following New Year’s Day

Residents can place two extra bags of garbage on the curb for pickup during their first collection day following New Year’s Day. This service is free, ensuring residents have an easy way to manage post-holiday waste. The extra bags must be standard 32-gallon kitchen trash bags and should be placed next to the brown garbage cart on the appropriate collection day.

Adjusted Collection Schedule for New Year’s Week

Due to the New Year’s Day holiday on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, collection schedules will shift as follows:

  • Wednesday collections move to Thursday, January 2.
  • Thursday collections move to Friday, January 3.
  • Friday collections move to Saturday, January 4.

Monday, December 30, and Tuesday, December 31, collections will remain on their regular schedules. Normal collection services will resume on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Reporting Missed Collections

It’s important to note that the two extra bags will be collected by a separate truck, which may arrive at a different time than the regular garbage cart collection. Residents are encouraged to wait before reporting a missed collection if their extra bags are not collected immediately. If an issue persists, residents can contact the 311 Fort Worth Contact Center at 817-392-1234 or use the MyFW app to report the problem.

Additional Disposal Options for Excess Waste

For residents who need to dispose of even more trash, the City has provided several options:

  1. Drop-Off Stations: Residents can bring excess garbage, recycling, yard waste, or bulk waste to any of the City’s four Drop-Off Stations. These facilities, along with the Environmental Collection Center, will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
  2. Pay Bags: Additional trash bags, known as Pay Bags, are available for purchase. A set of five bags costs $15 plus tax. Residents can order these bags by calling 817-392-1234, and the cost will be added to their water bill.

A Convenient Solution for a Busy Season

This holiday season, the City of Fort Worth is stepping up to ensure residents can easily manage the extra waste that comes with celebrations. Whether you’re using the free extra bag service or taking advantage of Drop-Off Stations and Pay Bags, there are plenty of options to help keep your home tidy as you ring in the new year.
