Dallas Fire-Rescue introduces training drill honoring Lt. Todd Krodle aimed at preventing future tragedies

Grand Prairie, Texas – The Dallas Fire-Rescue Department is paying tribute to one of its own with a new training initiative designed to save lives and prevent future tragedies. On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 10 a.m., the department will officially unveil the Lt. Todd Krodle Firefighter Rescue Drill at Hensley Field, 222 Hensley Field Drive, Grand Prairie, Texas.
A Lasting Tribute to Courage and Service
The drill and training prop were developed by the department’s Rapid Intervention Team (RIT)—a specialized group trained to respond when fellow firefighters become trapped, injured, or incapacitated during emergencies. The simulation is based on the tragic circumstances surrounding Lt. Krodle’s death on August 14, 2011, when he was fatally injured in the line of duty.
This new tool will offer hands-on training that mimics real-life rescue scenarios, allowing current firefighters to build the skills necessary to safely recover their fellow responders in high-risk situations.
The press conference unveiling will feature Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Justin Ball and Milton Williams of the Lt. Todd Krodle Foundation, honoring the memory of a man who gave his life in service to others and ensuring that future firefighters have the tools to stay safe in the most dangerous moments of their profession.
