77-and-82-year-old parents hospitalized after their 42-year-old son tied them up with a clothesline and beat them for hours before telling them to blame the injuries to a fall; son charged

New Hampshire – In a shocking incident in New Hampshire, a 42-year-old man, identified as N. Kay, is behind bars after assaulting his elderly parents in a prolonged and brutal attack that stretched over several hours. Authorities say the man tied up his 77-year-old mother and 82-year-old father, whose identities haven’t been publicly revealed, with a clothesline, beat them repeatedly, and then forced them to fabricate a story to cover for his crimes.

Kaynow faces a long list of charges in connection with the shocking incident, including two counts each of kidnapping, criminal restraint, and simple assault, and four counts of second-degree assault. He was arrested on October 15, shortly after emergency responders were called to his parents’ home. According to court records, the assaults began the day before and extended well into the next morning, resulting in both victims being hospitalized. Kay is currently being held in preventive detention, and though he waived his probable cause hearing, the case will proceed to the county superior court.

First responders were initially dispatched after a 911 call reported that two people had fallen down the stairs. One of the victims—believed to be Kay’s mother—told dispatchers she wasn’t sure if the other person was even breathing. When firefighters arrived, the scene raised immediate suspicion. They quickly contacted law enforcement after finding significant injuries and inconsistencies with the story. Once police began questioning the victims, the truth came to light: the injuries were not accidental but the result of an extended and violent assault carried out by their own son.

According to charging documents, Kay punched, kicked, and strangled his father and mother. At one point, he allegedly used a rope to choke his father, tied both parents with a clothesline, and dragged them into the garage, where the beatings continued. Hours later, he reportedly dragged them back into the home and resumed the attacks. The physical and emotional trauma was so severe that one of the parents finally convinced Kay to let them call for help. But he gave a condition: “Say it was a fall.” According to police, Kay insisted they blame the injuries on an accidental tumble down the stairs to avoid alerting authorities to the real cause.

Responding officers observed signs of a violent struggle throughout the home—blood stains on the floor, bruises on one victim’s face, and a pair of bloodied pants discovered in a laundry hamper. Investigators also noted that Kay’s father sustained a broken nose and ribs, while his mother was diagnosed with a brain bleed. Police Chief S. Akerstrom told local reporters the case stood out not just for its brutality but for its prolonged nature. “Usually, we’ll respond to incidents like this, it’s, you know, something has recently happened. Not over the course of 12 hours. That’s really the difference here with this case,” he said.

Though Kay was initially arrested on domestic violence charges, further investigation quickly escalated the case to include more severe allegations. As of now, no court date has been set. The elderly parents remain hospitalized as they recover from their injuries. The full extent of their trauma—both physical and emotional—may take far longer to heal. Meanwhile, their son sits in a detention center, awaiting a legal reckoning for the violence inflicted upon the very people who brought him into the world.
