1-year-old girl hospitalized with a brain bleed after her mother’s “lifetime friend,” who was supposed to keep her kids safe while she was at work, beat the infant severely; arrest

Ohio – In a horrific case that has shocked residents in Ohio, a 37-year-old woman, identified as A. Greger, has been arrested after a 1-year-old girl under her care was found with a traumatic brain injury and other serious injuries. The babysitter was charged with two counts of child endangerment and one count of evidence tampering. Prosecutors say Greger’s actions placed a vulnerable infant in grave danger, and then she attempted to hide the crime.
Greger faces charges that reflect the severity of what investigators believe happened. The two counts of endangering a child stem from the physical harm inflicted upon the 1-year-old girl, diagnosed with a brain bleed, bruised lungs, spinal fluid buildup, and fluid around the heart. In addition to the physical harm, authorities charged Greger with tampering with evidence after she attempted to launder or destroy the blood-stained clothing and bedding that could tie her to the abuse.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the baby was brought to a children’s hospital with visible injuries, including blood seeping from her right eye. Medical personnel quickly flagged the case as suspected child abuse and notified the police department. Following that call, investigators focused on Greger, who had been babysitting the child overnight while the child’s mother worked. The seriousness of the charges underscores not only the physical harm done to the child but also a suspected attempt to conceal evidence—an act that prosecutors say aggravates the crime.
The sequence of alleged events is grim and disturbing. On the evening of November 9, the child’s mother entrusted her infant daughter to Greger, described by the mother as a “lifetime friend” and someone she believed she could count on to protect and keep her children safe while she worked. When the mother returned the next morning, she found the baby sleeping. But a closer look revealed horrifying signs: “abrasions” on the baby’s lip, and the child was “lethargic.” When the mother tried to rouse her child, she was unable to wake her. Alarmed, she discovered serious injuries.
Inside the home, Greger was found sleeping in the same room. Witnesses say she was wearing a hooded sweatshirt that appeared to be stained with “blood and vomit.” Police obtained a search warrant for the home. During the search, officers discovered bloodstains throughout the bedroom. More damningly, the clothing the infant had been wearing the night before was found in the washing machine—cleaned, but still visibly stained with blood. The mother confirmed that the clothing matched what the child had been wearing when she left for work the previous evening. Doctors treating the infant discovered a brain bleed as well as bruised lungs, fluid buildup along the spine and around the heart, and signs of trauma throughout her small body. She was intubated and placed on a ventilator in the pediatric intensive care unit, sedated heavily in the hope she could begin healing.
After her arrest, Greger appeared in court for a bond hearing. A judge ordered her remanded without bond, setting a $500,000 cash surety if she is granted release. As part of the conditions, she must have no contact with the victim or any other children. She is scheduled to return to court on December 1. For now, the infant remains hospitalized under heavy medical care, with no guarantees for her long-term recovery. Her prognosis remains uncertain, and family and friends are calling for justice and prayers alike. The charges against Greger are a stark reminder of the vulnerability children face when placed in the care of someone else—and the dreadful consequences when the trust is broken so violently. As the investigation continues and the wheels of justice turn, the community watches with sorrow, anger, and hope that the infant will survive and that accountability will follow.
