Fort Worth Animal Care and Control to host annual Bow Wow Meow Puppy & Kitten Shower this weekend

Fort Worth, Texas – With spring approaching, animal shelters across the country are preparing for one of their busiest times of the year. The change in season often brings a dramatic rise in newborn animals needing care, a period widely known as puppy and kitten season. In Fort Worth, local officials are getting ready for this annual surge by hosting a community event aimed at gathering supplies and encouraging residents to help support vulnerable animals.
Fort Worth Animal Care & Control (FWACC) is organizing its annual Bow Wow Meow Puppy & Kitten Shower to raise awareness and collect much-needed resources for newborn puppies and kittens entering the shelter system. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at the Chisholm Trail Community Center located at 4936 McPherson Blvd. in Fort Worth.
Animal welfare officials say the arrival of spring naturally leads to a spike in animal births. Longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures trigger breeding cycles in cats and dogs, resulting in an influx of litters arriving at shelters.
While Fort Worth Animal Care & Control ensures that every animal adopted from the shelter is spayed or neutered before leaving the facility, many pets in the community and stray animals are not fixed. As a result, shelters often see a sudden wave of puppies and kittens that require special care and attention.
Helping Shelters Care for Newborn Animals
The Bow Wow Meow Puppy & Kitten Shower is designed to help the shelter prepare for the challenges of the season. The event will give community members the opportunity to learn how shelters care for newborn animals and how residents can assist in those efforts.
During the event, visitors will receive guidance from animal care staff about the needs of neonatal kittens and puppies. Shelter experts will share advice on feeding, monitoring health, and creating safe environments for fragile newborn animals.
Guests will also have the chance to see behind the scenes of the shelter’s work and learn about the resources required to keep newborn animals healthy during the busiest months of the year.
Organizers say the event is also an opportunity to recruit volunteers and foster families who are willing to temporarily care for animals in need. Foster homes play a crucial role in giving newborn animals a safe place to grow until they are ready for adoption.
In addition to educational activities, the event will feature light refreshments and family-friendly activities for attendees. Organizers are also planning a raffle for guests who bring donation items to support the shelter’s work.
Suggested donation items include kitten milk replacer, soft blankets, and supplies designed specifically for puppies.
Shelter officials say the event provides a meaningful opportunity for residents to support lifesaving efforts in their community.

Organizers say whether someone has experience fostering animals or simply wants to help, the Bow Wow Meow Puppy & Kitten Shower offers a chance to make a real difference for the youngest animals entering the shelter system.
