Three-time deported Mexican national facing federal charges after authorities say he rammed ICE vehicles and injured officers during attempted escape

Lewisville, Texas – Federal authorities have charged a man living in Lewisville after investigators said he rammed multiple law enforcement vehicles and seriously injured federal officers while attempting to escape an immigration enforcement operation.

According to U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs, 38-year-old Jose Andres Hernandez Medina, a Mexican national allegedly living illegally in the United States, was arrested and charged by federal complaint with assaulting or impeding federal officers in the Eastern District of Texas.

Hernandez Medina appeared in federal court on May 8, 2026, before Bill Davis for his initial appearance.

Federal authorities allege the violent confrontation happened on April 30, 2026, during an enforcement operation involving officers with Immigration and Customs Enforcement near an apartment complex in Lewisville.

Investigators said officers identified Hernandez Medina driving a vehicle along the Interstate 35 frontage road and attempted to stop him using three separate law enforcement vehicles equipped with activated emergency lights and sirens.

Federal Officers Injured During Attempted Escape

According to the criminal complaint, officers attempted to box in Hernandez Medina’s vehicle during the stop, but authorities say he instead accelerated aggressively in an attempt to flee.

Federal prosecutors allege Hernandez Medina rammed one of the law enforcement vehicles, causing significant injuries to a federal officer. The injured officer was immediately transported to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities said Hernandez Medina continued attempting to escape and collided with another federal law enforcement vehicle, seriously injuring a second officer and causing major damage.

That officer was also hospitalized.

Investigators said the suspect kept fleeing after the collisions, striking multiple unoccupied vehicles before eventually abandoning the vehicle and attempting to run away on foot.

Law enforcement officers later apprehended Hernandez Medina. Officials also detained a passenger who remains in custody on an immigration hold. Authorities said a third person who was inside the vehicle remains at large.

Federal immigration records reviewed by investigators allegedly show Hernandez Medina had already been deported from the United States to Mexico on at least three prior occasions before this latest arrest.

If convicted, Hernandez Medina faces a possible federal prison sentence of up to 20 years.

Officials said the case is connected to Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative led by the United States Department of Justice that focuses on immigration enforcement, combating transnational criminal organizations, and targeting violent crime.

The investigation is being handled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Calli Bailey is prosecuting the case.

The allegations outlined in the complaint have not yet been proven in court, and Hernandez Medina remains presumed innocent unless convicted through the federal judicial process.
