Federal charges filed against Allen resident accused of making threats against the President

Ronnie “Chip” Austin Jr., 56, of Allen, was charged through a criminal complaint with making threats against the President and transmitting threats in interstate commerce.

Federal officials said Austin was taken into custody on June 4, 2026. He made his initial appearance in court the following day before U.S. Magistrate Judge Aileen Goldman Durrett.

Federal Investigation Leads To Charges

Details about the alleged threats were not released in the announcement, but prosecutors confirmed that the charges involve threats directed at the President of the United States as well as communications that allegedly crossed state lines.

The case was announced by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs, whose office is handling the prosecution in the Eastern District of Texas.

Authorities emphasized that threats against federal officials are treated seriously and can lead to significant criminal penalties if proven in court.

As with all criminal complaints, the charges represent allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Case Linked To National Justice Department Initiative

Federal officials said the prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative.

According to the Justice Department, the initiative is aimed at using federal law enforcement resources to address a range of public safety concerns, including illegal immigration, transnational criminal organizations, cartel activity, and violent crime.

The investigation into Austin was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Rapp is leading the prosecution on behalf of the federal government.

The case will continue through the federal court system in the Eastern District of Texas as prosecutors pursue the charges against the Allen resident. Further details are expected to emerge as court proceedings move forward.
