Dallas-based Mexican national sentenced to more than 22 years in federal prison in major meth trafficking case

Dallas, Texas – A Mexican national living illegally in the United States has been sentenced to more than 22 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation that was uncovered during a lengthy federal investigation in Texas.

According to U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs, 32-year-old Juan Lopez-Carmona received a sentence of 270 months in federal prison following a Homeland Security Task Force investigation.

Lopez-Carmona previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, as well as possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The sentence was handed down on June 15, 2026, by U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant.

Investigation uncovered major drug operation

Federal authorities said the case grew out of an investigation that began in 2021. Law enforcement agencies were examining a drug trafficking organization believed to be responsible for moving large quantities of illegal narcotics from Mexico into the United States for distribution.

As investigators gathered evidence, the case eventually led them to a residence in Dallas.

On October 4, 2022, federal agents attempted to execute a search warrant at the home. According to evidence presented in court, Lopez-Carmona was inside the residence when officers arrived.

Authorities said Lopez-Carmona began firing at federal agents from within the house before attempting to escape on foot. Despite the effort to flee, he and another individual were quickly taken into custody.

The subsequent search of the residence uncovered a large quantity of illegal drugs and weapons.

Investigators found more than 30 kilograms of methamphetamine inside the home, along with four firearms and additional supplies commonly associated with drug trafficking activities.

Federal officials said the broader investigation led to multiple seizures involving several types of illegal narcotics and other evidence connected to the trafficking network.

Among the items recovered during the investigation were methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, firearms, and significant amounts of U.S. currency.

Homeland Security Task Force investigation

Authorities said the prosecution was part of a Homeland Security Task Force effort targeting major criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking and related crimes.

The investigation focused on a network that allegedly transported narcotics across the international border before redistributing them within the United States.

Federal prosecutors argued that Lopez-Carmona played a role in that operation and possessed firearms while participating in drug trafficking activities.

His guilty plea resolved the charges, and the 270-month prison sentence means he will spend more than two decades in federal custody.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts of federal law enforcement agencies to investigate and dismantle organizations involved in large-scale drug trafficking, particularly those linked to the movement of methamphetamine and other dangerous narcotics from Mexico into communities across the United States.
