Dallas trailer park blaze kills man and three dogs, suspect arrested for intentionally starting fire
Dallas, Texas – A fire purposefully started at a trailer park early Saturday morning was fatal for a man and three dogs in Northwest Dallas. Arrested at the site, the 38-year-old suspect, identified as Mirsa Lopez, was subsequently charged with arson charges.
Around 6:30 a.m., the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department received a call about a structure fire near the 2600 block of Lombardy Lane. Firefighters saw flames emerging from the rear of a mobile home rapidly spreading to nearby buildings and vehicles as soon as they arrived at the scene. Emergency crews fought the strong fire for two hours until it was ultimately under control by 8:40 a.m.
According to the local officials, the fire severely destroyed four vehicles and four mobile homes. Following the incident, an unconscious adult man was found in one of the impacted houses. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he was preannounced dead. The fire killed three pets as well.
The arrest warrant states that Lopez admitted using a plastic bag and a lighter to start the fire. She allegedly informed authorities that the she decided to put the mobile home on fire after the first trailer’s owner turned away her access to use the toilet. One witness confirmed seeing Lopez outside the trailer just as the flames began to erupt.
After being arrested, Lopez was taken to the Dallas County jail where she was kept awaiting a bond hearing. Apart from claiming lives, the fire caused other residents to be relocated. At least eleven individuals impacted by the incident sought help from the American Red Cross.
