US Foods expansion in Buda to bring jobs and economic growth

Buda, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has announced a significant economic development project in Buda, Texas, where US Foods, Inc., a prominent food service distributor, will expand its existing facility. The expansion is set to create 165 new jobs and generate more than $120 million in capital investment, further strengthening the region’s economy and enhancing food distribution capabilities in Central Texas.

Economic Boost and Job Creation

The expansion project has received substantial support through a $1,072,500 Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant to facilitate this growth. Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “This significant investment in Buda brings 165 new, good-paying jobs for hardworking Texans in Central Texas and showcases the strength of our state’s economy. Companies invest and expand in our great state because of our unmatched business-friendly climate, reasonable regulations, and highly skilled workforce.”

US Foods has been a vital part of the Buda community since opening its warehouse in 2011. With the expanded facility, the company aims to improve its food distribution network along the I-35 corridor, including Austin’s renowned food scene.

Community and Regional Impact

The expansion has garnered widespread support from local and state leaders. Senator Donna Campbell highlighted the dual benefits of business and community growth, saying, “This project isn’t just about business growth, it’s about giving families new opportunities and strengthening Texas’s economy. Thanks to the Texas Enterprise Fund, we’re not just investing in Texas businesses but in the future of Texas and our communities.”

Senator Judith Zaffirini echoed these sentiments, focusing on the project’s impact on regional food distribution. “The increased capacity will enhance food distribution along the I-35 corridor, especially to Austin’s world-class food scene,” she said, emphasizing the collaboration between public and private sectors to spur regional growth.

Local Leadership Applauds Expansion

Buda’s local leadership is equally enthusiastic about the development. Mayor Lee Urbanovsky expressed gratitude for the project’s potential to improve the quality of life for Buda residents. “This project will help create more job opportunities for our residents to thrive, which is a critical component to creating a good quality of life in Buda,” he said.

City Manager Micah Grau highlighted the economic impact of the Texas Enterprise Fund award, stating, “This positive growth is critical to our community’s economic success. We are grateful to the Governor’s Office and the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office for believing in Buda.”

US Foods Strengthens its Commitment

Taylor McIntyre, Area President for US Foods, expressed the company’s appreciation for the support it has received. “We’ve been proud to do business here since we opened our Buda warehouse in 2011,” he said. “We look forward to continuing to grow and enhance our partnership with the many foodservice operators we serve across the region.”

The project also marks a milestone for Buda, with Buda Economic Development Corporation CEO Jennifer Storm noting the significance of this being the city’s first Texas Enterprise Fund investment. “We are honored to have our first Texas Enterprise Fund investment in Buda, which helped us land the US Foods expansion,” she said.

A Brighter Future for Buda

This expansion underscores Buda’s growing prominence as a key economic hub in Central Texas. By fostering collaboration between businesses, local government, and state leadership, the project is set to deliver lasting benefits to the community. With more jobs, improved food distribution, and substantial capital investment, this development reaffirms Texas’s reputation as a business-friendly state while providing opportunities for families and residents to thrive.
