Texas lottery players excited as Lotto Texas jackpot climbs to one of the largest in history

Austin, Texas – The excitement is palpable as the Lotto Texas jackpot for tonight’s drawing climbs to an estimated annuitized $69.25 million, making it the ninth-largest prize in the game’s history. This jackpot also stands as the third-largest lottery prize currently available in North America. The winner of this impressive sum could choose a cash value of approximately $37.2 million. If there is no winner on Saturday, the jackpot will roll over to an estimated $70 million for the Monday, January 20, drawing.
“The Lotto Texas jackpot continues to grow, giving players another chance to daydream about winning a huge jackpot prize this weekend,” said Ryan Mindell, executive director of the Texas Lottery. “Sales are strong for this run, which is good news for schools because every ticket sold helps generate revenue for public education in Texas. As anticipation for Saturday’s drawing builds, we want to remind our players they must be 18 years or older to play, and it only takes one ticket to win.”
A Jackpot Run to Remember
The current jackpot run began with an estimated annuitized $5 million for the June 26, 2024, drawing. Saturday’s drawing will mark the 89th in this streak, which has captured the attention of Texas Lottery players across the state. This is the largest Lotto Texas jackpot since the April 22, 2023, drawing, when the prize reached $95 million. The all-time largest Lotto Texas jackpot remains an advertised $145 million, which was won in the June 19, 2004, drawing by VOM Enterprises, Ltd.
Historically, Lotto Texas has seen six winning jackpots in the $60 million range. The last one occurred on February 8, 2006, when a $64 million prize was claimed by AB Revocable Living Trust. In 2024 alone, two jackpot winners were crowned, including an Austin resident who claimed $29 million in the June 24 drawing.
Lower-Tier Wins Continue
While the jackpot prize remains unclaimed, many players are still cashing in. In the January 15 drawing, 67,636 tickets won lower-tier prizes ranging from $2 to $12,006. Players who selected the Extra! add-on feature for an additional $1 had the chance to boost their winnings by up to $10,000.
