Annual health event offers free prostate cancer screenings and education in Fort Worth

Fort Worth, Texas – Tarrant County Commissioner Roderick Miles Jr. and Honorable Roy Charles Brooks are leading an important initiative to raise awareness about prostate cancer by hosting the 11th Annual Healthy Lives Matter Prostate Cancer Education and Screening Event. This free community event will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Moncrief Cancer Institute, located at 400 W. Magnolia Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas. Participants will receive a continental breakfast and lunch while learning critical information about prostate cancer prevention and early detection.
Raising Awareness and Offering Life-Saving Screenings
This annual event is dedicated to increasing awareness about prostate cancer, especially among men who are at higher risk. Medical professionals will be on-site to provide free PSA screenings, a simple blood test that measures prostate-specific antigen levels, which can help detect prostate cancer in its early stages.
Men over 45 who are considered high risk—including men of color and those with a family history of prostate cancer—are strongly encouraged to attend. Research shows that more than 299,000 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. African-American and Hispanic men are 64 percent more likely to develop the disease compared to Caucasian men and are nearly 2.4 times more likely to die from it. Early detection through PSA testing can significantly increase survival rates.
Making a Difference Through Education and Prevention
The Healthy Lives Matter initiative seeks to educate men on the importance of routine screenings and overall health awareness. By providing free testing and expert advice, this event empowers men to take control of their health and potentially prevent serious health complications.
