Governor Greg Abbott announced major investment to boost semiconductor manufacturing in Texas

Round Rock, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) has awarded a $2 million grant to KoMiCo Technology, Inc., a company specializing in precision cleaning and coatings for semiconductor wafer manufacturing tools. This grant will support KoMiCo’s expansion in Round Rock, bringing 70 new jobs to the region and generating $36 million in capital investment.
Strengthening Texas’ Semiconductor Industry
Texas continues to position itself as a national leader in semiconductor manufacturing by making strategic investments to bolster domestic supply chains. Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of these investments, noting that KoMiCo’s expansion will enhance clean room capacity and production lines, contributing to the state’s ongoing leadership in technology and job creation.
“Texas is leading the American resurgence in semiconductor manufacturing and making strategic investments to secure critical domestic supply chains,” said Governor Abbott. “KoMiCo’s $36 million investment to expand their clean room capacity and production lines in Round Rock supports increased chip production right here in Texas. Thanks to industry leaders like KoMiCo growing their presence in our great state, we will continue to lead the nation in innovation and job creation as we build a stronger, more prosperous Texas than ever before.”
Expansion to Support Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing
KoMiCo, a wholly owned subsidiary of KoMiCo Ltd., provides parts cleaning, coating services, and equipment parts for semiconductor industries. With this new investment, the company will expand its facility in Round Rock by over 40,000 square feet. This expansion will increase clean room capacity and improve contamination removal processes—critical components in semiconductor manufacturing.
The facility will enhance its capabilities in handling advanced node (sub 10nm) geometry chamber tool parts, essential for modern semiconductor production. Contamination removal, which ensures the elimination of microscopic impurities from wafer surfaces, plays a crucial role in preventing defects in microstructures.
“KoMiCo is profoundly grateful to the State of Texas for their generous grant supporting the semiconductor manufacturing supply chain,” said KoMiCo USA CEO Sung Soo Jang. “This investment not only reinforces our industry but also strengthens the technological fabric of our nation. With Texas’ unwavering support, we are poised to drive innovation, create jobs, and build a brighter future. Thank you, Governor Abbott, for your steadfast commitment to progress and excellence.”
Economic and Technological Benefits for Texas
This investment is another milestone in Texas’ growing semiconductor industry. The expansion of KoMiCo’s Round Rock facility supports both job creation and technological advancements, further cementing Texas as a hub for innovation and semiconductor manufacturing.
Senator Sarah Eckhardt praised the investment, highlighting its positive impact on both the workforce and the state’s technology sector.
“I’m thrilled about this good investment into good jobs helping manufacture good technology,” said Senator Eckhardt. “KoMiCo’s continued strong presence in Central Texas supports prosperity for our communities and Texas’ technology innovation leadership.”
With support from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund, KoMiCo’s expansion reinforces the state’s commitment to semiconductor leadership, ensuring continued economic growth and advancements in critical technology sectors.
