Texas Latino Comic Con returns with special Baldo anniversary and lucha libre championship match

Dallas, Texas – The Latino Cultural Center is preparing to welcome fans, creators, and cultural enthusiasts to the ninth annual Texas Latino Comic Con, a vibrant celebration of Latino storytelling and artistry. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This year marks a particularly special milestone as the convention will honor the 25th anniversary of “Baldo”, the beloved syndicated comic strip by Hector Cantu and Carlos Castellanos. Known for its humor, heart, and authentic representation of Latino family life, Baldo has earned a place as a cultural touchstone in comic history.
Spotlight on Baldo’s Legacy
To celebrate this anniversary, attendees will have the opportunity to join a special panel featuring Hector Cantu himself. The panel will explore Baldo’s enduring legacy, the cultural impact it has had over the past 25 years, and the importance of authentic representation in comics. For many fans, this panel will be the highlight of the convention.
Lucha Libre Returns with Bengali Defending the Title
Adding to the excitement, the convention will once again feature live lucha libre, a fan-favorite that connects the drama and artistry of wrestling with the bold creativity of Latino comics. This year, Texas Latino Comic Con Champion Bengali el Divo will step back into the ring to defend his championship belt. He will be joined by other local wrestling talents and comic creators, promising a thrilling experience that embodies the spirit and energy of Latino culture.
“We are proud to partner with the Latino Cultural Center for the ninth consecutive year to bring together the best Latino comic book creators and fans,” said Hector Rodriguez, founder of Texas Latino Comic Con and creator of El Peso Hero. “Celebrating Baldo’s milestone and bringing back lucha libre with Bengali defending the title makes this year’s event a true testament to our community’s creativity and spirit.”
Workshops, Panels, and Local Vendors
Beyond the main attractions, the convention will feature artist workshops and comic creator panels, giving fans the chance to learn directly from some of the most talented Latino artists and writers. Attendees can also explore a wide range of local vendors, including Mundo Mascaras, a Dallas-Fort Worth family company known for offering unique lucha libre merchandise.
