17-year-old boy died after his sister’s baby father shot him in the abdomen when he tried to separate him from his sister during a loud argument at their home; man arrested

Florida – In a horrific incident in Florida, a 24-year-old man, identified as T. Robinson, is facing a second-degree murder charge after shooting a 17-year-old boy, identified as J. Jones, to death when the teen tried to separate the man from his sister during a loud argument at their home. According to reports, Robinson was arrested after shooting Jones in the abdomen during the confrontation that unfolded inside the victim’s family home on December 28, 2025.
Robinson is being held without bond at the county jail and is scheduled to appear in court on February 26. The charge against him—second-degree murder with a firearm—stems from a deadly encounter that police say began as a heated exchange between the suspect and the mother of his child and ended in the tragic death of her younger brother.
The violence erupted shortly before 9 a.m. in a residence. Robinson had come to the house to pick up his toddler son from the boy’s mother. What started as a routine custody exchange quickly escalated into a loud and tense argument between the former couple. According to police, Jones, the 17-year-old younger brother of the woman, attempted to intervene. Hoping to defuse the argument, he stepped between the two adults. The situation turned physical when Robinson and Jones grabbed hold of one another and, still locked together, fell onto a nearby bed.
It was there, authorities say, that Jones was shot. When officers arrived, they found him suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Paramedics transported the teen to a hospital, but despite emergency efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Detectives interviewed multiple family members who were in the home at the time. Jones’ mother told police she had overheard the argument and asked her son to go downstairs and separate the pair. Moments later, she heard a loud “pop” and saw her son collapse. She recalled hearing her daughter scream: “You just shot my brother.”
Jones’ sister, the mother of Robinson’s child, told investigators that while the argument was loud, it had not turned violent before her brother stepped in. She said Jones grabbed Robinson in a “bear hug” and that the two were not fighting or exchanging blows. According to her account, Robinson was trying to get up and yelled, “get off me,” before pulling a gun and shooting Jones in the abdomen. A second sister present during the argument said she took the toddler out of the room before hearing the shot. She confirmed that no physical fight had broken out before the shooting occurred.
Robinson initially claimed the shooting was unintentional. During his Mirandized interview with detectives, he said he was attempting to remove the gun from his sweatshirt pocket to avoid accidentally shooting himself and that the weapon discharged by mistake. Police noted that the firearm was not holstered. At the scene, Robinson reportedly repeated several times that it was an accident and told officers, “I f–d up. It was an accident.” After the shooting, he also allegedly said, “he should have got off me.” However, Jones’s sister disputed any suggestion that her brother was hurting Robinson or posing a threat, stating that there was “no reason” for him to pull out a gun.
The tragic death of Jones has left his family and community devastated. Those who knew the victim described the teenager as bright, kind, and full of charm. Jones was the youngest of three siblings and regularly participated in the church’s youth group. Now, the victim’s friends and his family are preparing for a funeral no one expected. A teenage boy who only wanted to keep peace in his home lost his life in the effort.
