City of Dallas advises residents of continued closures and service disruptions during ongoing winter weather

Dallas, Texas – Dallas residents are advised to prepare for continued disruptions as winter weather, freezing temperatures, and unsafe road conditions force multiple city facilities and services to shut down or adjust operations across the city.

City officials announced that Dallas City Hall will again be closed to the public on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, citing the ongoing impact of winter weather and the risk created by icy streets. While the building will not be open for public access, the city stressed that public safety and other critical services will continue to be provided. In addition, all city meetings scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled, as the city works to limit travel and reduce safety hazards for employees and residents. Officials encouraged the public to monitor dallascitynews.net for additional updates as conditions evolve.

Courts, libraries, and inspections paused as closures expand

The winter storm’s effects are also reaching the legal system. The Dallas Municipal Court will be closed on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, and the city said all court proceedings will be rescheduled. Defendants will be notified of their new court date by mail, ensuring that people impacted by the closure still receive official notice. Jurors were also told not to report, as all jury duty will be rescheduled.

Residents who rely on city facilities for daily needs are also facing interruptions. The Dallas Public Library announced that all locations will be closed Tuesday, January 27, though officials reminded residents that online resources remain available. Library services can still be accessed 24/7 at DallasLibrary.org, allowing people to browse digital materials even while buildings are closed.

In the Planning and Development Department, closures and delays are expected to affect construction and permitting work. Officials said offices including City Hall, all District Offices, and 320 E. Jefferson will be closed. Inspections are postponed, which may impact timelines for projects that depend on city approvals. Even with buildings closed, the department said phone lines remain open for assistance and inquiries, with residents able to contact City Hall at 214.670.4209 and 320 E. Jefferson at 214.948.4480.

Recreation, sanitation, and community services face disruptions

Dallas Park and Recreation officials said they will continue monitoring weather and road conditions throughout the week. The department is assessing operational status not only for Tuesday, but also for the remainder of the week. Residents were encouraged to visit DallasParks.org for updated information on closures or program changes.

Sanitation services may also be affected. City officials said they are monitoring street conditions and will make a determination on service later in the day. Residents looking for the most current information were advised to check the sanitation department’s website for updates.

Several services under the Office of Housing and Community Empowerment are also being impacted. The city said all WIC Clinics will be closed through Tuesday, January 27. Clients who need WIC services can call 214-670-7200 or email [email protected]. Potential new WIC clients can visit TexasWIC.org to apply, and the city said staff will follow up with applicants.

Other closures include the Vital Statistics office in the Dallas Central Library, which will remain closed through Tuesday, January 27. Two community centers are also staying closed through the same date: the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and the West Dallas Multipurpose Center.

City officials emphasized that conditions can shift quickly, and residents should continue checking for updates as the winter weather response continues. For the latest up-to-date information, the city directed the public to its winter weather news blog at https://dal.city/WinterWeather2026.
