City of Dallas hosts symposium to help residents better understand emergency services and response

Dallas, Texas – Dallas officials are opening the door to deeper public understanding of how emergency response systems work, as the City of Dallas Office of Community Police Oversight prepares to host a major public event focused on transparency, education, and direct engagement with residents.

The upcoming Public Safety Response Symposium: Understanding Public Safety Response is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026, and aims to give residents a clearer picture of how public safety operations function across the city. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with doors opening earlier at 9:30 a.m. to welcome attendees with light breakfast and refreshments. It will take place at the State Fair of Texas, inside the Briscoe Carpenter Livestock Center located at 1403 Washington Street in Dallas.

City leaders are encouraging widespread participation, emphasizing that the symposium is open to all Dallas residents who want to learn more and share their perspectives.

Bringing clarity to public safety systems

The event is designed to break down how emergency services operate behind the scenes. Attendees will hear opening remarks from Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux, setting the tone for a series of presentations by public safety leaders. These sessions will focus on how calls made to 9-1-1 and 3-1-1 are handled, how decisions are made when deploying resources, and how evolving technology is expected to improve response times across the city.

Beyond the basic response systems, the symposium will also shine a light on specialized efforts that often go unseen. Residents will gain insight into Crisis Intervention teams, Emergency Management operations, and other focused units that respond to complex situations within the community. By laying out these processes in a clear and open way, city officials hope to reduce confusion and build stronger understanding.

A key part of the event is the interactive Community Q&A session. This portion will allow attendees to ask questions directly to officials, offer feedback, and raise concerns. Organizers stress that this dialogue is not just symbolic, but a meaningful opportunity for residents to influence how public safety evolves in Dallas.

Police Monitor Michele Andre highlighted the importance of this open exchange, stating, “Open communication is essential for a safer Dallas. This symposium is about listening to the community, answering questions, and building trust. We welcome everyone to join us, share their perspectives, and help strengthen public safety in our city.”

With limited space available, residents are encouraged to register in advance to secure their place. The city views this gathering as more than just an informational session—it is an effort to bridge gaps, strengthen trust, and create a more responsive and informed public safety system shaped by the voices of the community itself.
