Newly elected and returning Fort Worth officials to be sworn in following May third election

Fort Worth, Texas – A new chapter in Fort Worth’s leadership will be marked on Tuesday, May 13, when Mayor Mattie Parker, eight re-elected City Council members, and one newly elected member are officially sworn in during a special-called City Council meeting. The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. and will also include the adoption of a resolution formally accepting the results of the May 3 general election.
Among those returning to office are:
-
Mayor Mattie Parker
-
Carlos E. Flores, District 2
-
Michael D. Crain, District 3
-
Charlie Lauersdorf, District 4
-
Macy Hill, District 7
-
Chris Nettles, District 8
-
Elizabeth Beck, District 9
-
Alan Blaylock, District 10
-
Jeanette Martinez, District 11
Joining the Council for the first time is Councilmember-elect Deborah Peoples, who captured 54.27% of the vote to win the District 5 seat representing east Fort Worth. A retired AT&T executive, Peoples is no stranger to public service, having spent years working within the community and serving on numerous nonprofit boards. She enters office with a focus on key issues such as public safety and economic development.
Mayor Pro Tempore Gyna Bivens, the longest-serving member of the current Council, will offer outgoing remarks during the meeting. Elected in 2013, Bivens is known for her deep commitment to neighborhood revitalization, economic growth, and championing senior citizens throughout east and southeast Fort Worth. Her departure will mark the end of more than a decade of service on the Council.
Meanwhile, one race remains undecided. District 6 is headed to a runoff election after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote. Mia Hall and Daryl R. Davis II will compete for the seat in a June 7 runoff, which became necessary following the decision by Councilmember Jared Williams not to seek a third term.
