Mayor Johnson names new appointees to key regional boards to represent Dallas in transportation and tourism

Dallas, Texas – Mayor Eric L. Johnson on Tuesday announced several new appointments to serve on the Regional Transportation Council (RTC), the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition (DRMC), and the Visit Dallas Board of Directors. These appointments are effective immediately and were made solely at the mayor’s discretion without the need for City Council approval.

Key Appointments for Transportation and Economic Development

To represent the city on the RTC, Mayor Johnson appointed six individuals, including Mayor Pro Tem Jesse Moreno, Councilmembers Paul Ridley, Lorie Blair, Cara Mendelsohn, and Kathy Stewart, along with William Tsao. Councilmember Paul Ridley, who chairs the Dallas City Council Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, will lead the city’s efforts on the RTC. His committee colleagues, Councilmembers Blair and Mendelsohn, will also serve on the RTC.

In addition, the mayor designated Councilmember Bill Roth, who serves as vice chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as an alternate representative. Highland Park Councilmember Marc Myers and Dan Micciche were also reappointed as alternate RTC members.

For the DRMC, Mayor Johnson selected Councilmembers Paul Ridley, Lorie Blair, and Cara Mendelsohn. These appointments are seen as an effort to ensure the city’s voices are heard when it comes to securing state and federal support for critical infrastructure and mobility initiatives throughout North Texas.

The mayor also named Mayor Pro Tem Jesse Moreno to the Board of Directors for Visit Dallas, the organization responsible for promoting the city as a prime destination for both business and leisure travelers.

“As the anchor of North Texas, Dallas must have a strong voice in these organizations to advance our city’s priorities in transportation, tourism, and economic growth,” said Mayor Johnson. “I expect all my appointees to represent Dallas with excellence and deliver great results for our city, and have every confidence that they will do so.”

Understanding the Role of the Boards

The Regional Transportation Council operates under the North Central Texas Council of Governments and serves as an independent policy-making body that shapes transportation decisions across the region. Its members are primarily local elected officials and transportation experts.

The Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition advocates for transportation improvements across cities and counties in North Texas, working closely with government agencies and lawmakers to support large-scale mobility projects.

Visit Dallas is a nonprofit marketing group contracted by the City of Dallas to enhance tourism and business travel. Its efforts help boost the local economy through job creation and increased tax revenue, all while supporting a vibrant quality of life for Dallas residents and visitors.

With these strategic appointments, Mayor Johnson aims to position Dallas as a leader in shaping transportation policies, enhancing mobility, and promoting economic growth across the region.
