Governor Abbott honored with Atomic Texan Award during 2025 Texas Nuclear Summit

Austin, Texas – At the 2025 Texas Nuclear Summit, Governor Greg Abbott reaffirmed his commitment to making Texas the driving force behind America’s nuclear energy resurgence. During the summit, he was honored with the prestigious “Atomic Texan Award” for his efforts and leadership in propelling nuclear development within the state.

A Clear Vision for Nuclear Energy Growth

“As the Texas economy continues to grow, the lifeblood of every business increasingly depends upon affordable, reliable power,” said Governor Abbott during his remarks. “To power our future, Texas must be the epicenter for nuclear power generation. Altogether, we have amassed the resources, infrastructure, and the strategy to be able to advance the nuclear renaissance here in the state of Texas.”

Governor Abbott reminded attendees of his declaration during the State of the State address earlier this year, where he called for Texas to lead the nation’s nuclear renaissance. Since then, tangible steps have been taken to back that vision with action. In June, Governor Abbott signed House Bill 14 into law, a major milestone that established the Texas Advanced Nuclear Energy Office (TANEO). The new office will oversee and guide the growth of nuclear initiatives throughout the state.

In addition to creating TANEO, the bill also established a substantial $350 million Texas Advanced Nuclear Development Fund. This fund is designed to incentivize companies and developers to invest in nuclear power generation and research in Texas. These financial tools aim to make Texas more attractive to innovators and businesses in the energy space.

Building a Nuclear Future Together

Governor Abbott used the opportunity to thank the Texas Legislature and nuclear energy advocates who have supported the efforts to elevate Texas as the center of the nation’s nuclear energy industry. He credited them with helping Texas secure a place at the forefront of the nuclear supply chain and emphasized the importance of collaboration to ensure long-term success.

The summit also featured Texas Nuclear Alliance President Reed Clay and TANEO Director Jarred Shaffer, who stood alongside the Governor in support of the initiative. Together, they painted a picture of Texas as not only an energy leader but a state prepared to carry the future of sustainable and reliable nuclear power for the entire country.
