Fort Worth Fire Department earns national recognition for rapid response and advanced emergency medical care

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth Fire Department has earned national recognition from the American Heart Association for its emergency medical response efforts involving some of the most critical medical emergencies, including severe heart attacks and strokes.

City officials announced that the department received the Mission: Lifeline EMS Silver achievement award, an honor given to emergency medical agencies that demonstrate strong performance in delivering fast, evidence-based care to patients facing life-threatening cardiac and stroke events.

The recognition highlights the role emergency medical responders play during the first moments of a medical crisis, when every minute can impact survival and recovery outcomes.

Rapid response credited with improving patient care

According to the American Heart Association, emergency medical teams often begin treatment long before a patient reaches a hospital. In many cases, EMS crews can start care up to an hour earlier than if a patient traveled to the hospital by personal vehicle.

Emergency responders are also trained to perform lifesaving measures when a person’s heart stops beating. Officials noted that patients transported by ambulance may receive quicker treatment once they arrive at the hospital because medical teams are already prepared for the emergency before the patient enters the building.

Mission: Lifeline EMS is a national initiative created by the American Heart Association to improve the entire system of care for patients suffering from severe and time-sensitive medical conditions. The program focuses on reducing delays beginning with the initial 911 call, continuing through ambulance transport, hospital treatment, and patient discharge.

The award recognizes agencies that successfully coordinate care and follow proven medical practices designed to improve outcomes for patients experiencing major cardiac events or strokes.

Additional recognition for heart attack care coordination

Along with the Mission: Lifeline EMS Silver achievement award, the Fort Worth Fire Department was also recognized on the American Heart Association’s Target: Heart Attack Honor Roll.

Officials explained that this recognition emphasizes cooperation between EMS providers and hospitals to reduce the time between first medical contact and advanced treatment procedures such as primary percutaneous coronary intervention or thrombolytic therapy. These treatments are critical for restoring blood flow during severe heart attacks.

To qualify for the honor roll, agencies must meet strict standards related to rapid treatment times and coordinated emergency response systems.

The awards reflect years of training, preparation, and collaboration between first responders and healthcare providers throughout the Fort Worth area. City leaders say the recognition demonstrates the department’s ongoing commitment to improving emergency medical services and increasing survival chances for residents facing medical emergencies.
