Texas man receives 108 month sentence in large scale meth trafficking case tied to Houston drug operation

San Antonio, Texas – A man from Baytown has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison after authorities said he participated in a large methamphetamine trafficking operation involving nearly a kilogram of pure meth and more than 500 grams of cocaine.

According to Justin R. Simmons, 57-year-old Terry Lynn Clay received a 108-month federal prison sentence in court in San Antonio.

Federal court records showed that Clay was involved in a drug trafficking conspiracy during June 2021.

Investigators said Clay obtained approximately 992.4 grams of 100% methamphetamine along with 526 grams of cocaine as part of the operation.

Authorities alleged that Clay purchased the methamphetamine from Timothy Bland in Houston on June 9, 2021.

Later that same day, prosecutors said Clay transferred the narcotics to an associate, Tonya Vonci Middleton Harris, for additional trafficking activity.

Investigation Led To Multiple Federal Sentences

The investigation quickly led to arrests after the exchange took place.

According to authorities, troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested both Clay and Middleton-Harris shortly afterward.

Clay was initially placed into state custody following his arrest before later being transferred into federal custody on Feb. 8, 2022.

Court records show that Clay eventually pleaded guilty on Oct. 29, 2024, to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine.

Federal officials said Clay became the final defendant sentenced in a broader case involving 10 individuals connected to the drug trafficking operation. The case was overseen by U.S. District Judge Jason K. Pulliam.

Authorities noted that Middleton-Harris previously received a 24-month prison sentence on March 4.

Meanwhile, Bland was sentenced to 235 months in federal prison for his role in the trafficking operation.

Federal prosecutors said the case highlights continuing efforts to target large-scale methamphetamine distribution networks operating across Texas communities.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Spears.
