One million dollar Powerball ticket sold in Austin remains unclaimed as Texas Lottery warns of approaching deadline
Austin, Texas – A Powerball ticket worth $1 million remains unclaimed in Texas, and lottery officials are urging anyone who may have purchased the winning ticket to check their numbers before time runs out.
The winning ticket was sold for the Powerball drawing held on Feb. 2 at Circle K #2704686, located at 6107 W. Parmer Lane in Austin. Although the ticket matched all five white ball numbers drawn — 3, 8, 31, 60, and 65 — it did not match the red Powerball number, which was 4. Even without the Powerball number, the ticket is worth a $1 million prize.
According to the Texas Lottery, the prize has not yet been claimed, and the winning ticket will expire on Saturday, Aug. 1, if it is not validated before the deadline.
Ticket holder has limited time to claim prize
Lottery officials said anyone who possesses the winning ticket has two options to claim the prize.
Those who choose to claim the winnings in person must visit a Texas Lottery claim center no later than 5 p.m. local time on Friday, July 31.
The winner may also submit the claim by mail. To qualify, the winning ticket must be mailed together with a completed claim form and be postmarked on or before Aug. 1, the official expiration date. Lottery officials noted that mailed claims can take up to four weeks to process.
Texas Lottery rules state that winning draw game tickets generally expire on the 180th day after the drawing. After that period, the holder loses the right to collect the prize. An exception may apply to certain eligible military personnel, whose deadline may be extended under specific circumstances.
If the $1 million prize remains unclaimed after the deadline, the money will not remain with the lottery. Instead, it will return to the state and be used for programs authorized by the Texas Legislature.
With the deadline quickly approaching, lottery officials encourage anyone who purchased a Powerball ticket in Austin for the Feb. 2 drawing to carefully check their ticket. A simple review of the numbers could reveal a life-changing prize that is still waiting to be claimed.
