Dallas Animal Services offers free adoptions to help Empty the Shelters

Dallas, Texas – Dallas Animal Services (DAS) has joined forces with BISSELL Pet Foundation to participate in the nation’s largest funded adoption event, Empty the Shelters. Through December 17, DAS will waive all adoption fees, offering a wonderful opportunity for families to bring home a new pet while making a significant impact on the lives of shelter animals.

A Lifeline for Shelter Pets Nationwide

Empty the Shelters, hosted by BISSELL Pet Foundation, has already helped more than 300,000 pets across the United States find their forever homes. Cathy Bissell, the foundation’s founder, emphasized the urgency of the initiative:

“It has been an incredibly challenging year for saving lives as our nation’s shelters continue to take in more pets than they are adopting out. Tens of thousands of shelter pets—of all breeds, ages, and personalities—are desperately in need of homes,” Bissell stated. “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope is more than an adoption event; it’s a lifeline for shelter pets. Please visit your local participating shelter to adopt or foster a pet this holiday season.”

Addressing Overcrowding and Preparing for Repairs

Currently operating at 133% capacity for dogs, DAS is in urgent need of reducing its population to begin essential facility repairs. These improvements are vital for the well-being of the animals and will allow DAS to better serve the community in the future. While smaller areas of the facility have already undergone repairs, DAS is striving to reduce capacity to below 100% before work begins on the larger sections.

Paul Ramon, Director of DAS, highlighted the dual benefits of this adoption campaign:

“As the City of Dallas continues to enhance our facilities, we are seeking opportunities within the community to connect wonderful animals with loving forever homes. These animals are eager to become cherished members of a family. Additionally, if you can open your heart and home as a foster through the holiday season, your support would mean the world to us and them. Together, we can make a lasting difference.”

How You Can Help

All DAS adoptions are free, and each adoption includes spay or neuter services, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, and an engraved ID tag. Potential adopters can even explore the option of out-of-state adoptions, making it easier for anyone to help shelter pets.

By adopting or fostering a pet from DAS, you’re contributing to their mission of finding loving homes for animals and supporting vital facility improvements. Your kindness will not only transform a pet’s life but also bring joy and hope during the holiday season.
