City of Dallas announces holiday closures and adjusted schedules for Christmas and New Year’s Day
Dallas, Texas – As the holiday season approaches, the City of Dallas has announced closures and adjusted operating hours for various departments and facilities in observance of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and note these changes to avoid any disruption to city services.
Adjustments for Arts and Cultural Facilities
The Office of Arts and Culture administrative offices will remain closed on Wednesday, December 25, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Several cultural centers, including the Bath House Cultural Center, Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Latino Cultural Center, and South Dallas Cultural Center, will be closed December 25 through January 1, 2025. Normal operating hours will resume on January 2, 2025.
Additionally, the Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House & Museum will remain closed from December 23 through January 7, 2025, reopening to visitors on January 8, 2025.
Adjusted Hours for Animal Services

Dallas Park and Recreation Facilities
The Dallas Park and Recreation Department will close early at 5 p.m. on both Christmas Eve (December 24) and New Year’s Eve (December 31). Recreation centers will also observe these adjusted hours. Library Holiday Hours
The Dallas Public Libraries will also observe early closures, shutting down at 5 p.m. on both Christmas Eve (December 24) and New Year’s Eve (December 31). Water Utilities Services
The Dallas Water Utilities administrative and customer service offices will close on Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year’s Day (January 1). Adjustments to Municipal Court Operations

Sanitation Services and Garbage Collection
Trash, recycling, and bulk waste collections will follow an adjusted schedule due to the holidays. There will be no collections on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25) or New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1). Residents should note the following adjustments:
- Wednesday routes will be collected on Thursday (Dec. 26 and Jan. 2).
- Thursday routes will be collected on Friday (Dec. 27 and Jan. 3).
- Friday routes will be collected on Saturday (Dec. 28 and Jan. 4).
The McCommas Bluff Landfill and all City Transfer Stations will be closed on both holidays. However, the Fair Oaks and Westmoreland Transfer Stations will offer limited hours, opening from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 28.
