Convicted felon admits to illegal firearms possession and marijuana trade intent in Houston arrest
Houston, Texas – A 49-year-old Houston man, Christopher Curry, has been convicted of illegally possessing six firearms, according to U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Curry, a convicted felon, admitted his intention to exchange the firearms for marijuana, violating federal law prohibiting felons from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Firearms Seized During Arrest
Authorities arrested Curry on October 17, finding six firearms in his possession. Among the seized items were a shotgun, a pistol, and several semiautomatic rifles, all discovered in his vehicle. Curry’s criminal history includes three felony convictions, with two involving drug possession and one for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Legal Consequences and Sentencing
Senior U.S. District Judge Sim Lake accepted Curry’s guilty plea and scheduled his sentencing for March 14, 2025. Curry faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He remains in custody while awaiting the hearing.
Law Enforcement Collaboration
The Houston Police Department’s Northeast Crime Suppression Team, in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Crime Gun Strike Force, conducted the investigation that led to Curry’s arrest. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Ganz is prosecuting the case.
