Texas seizes enough fentanyl to threaten North America’s population through Operation Lone Star

Texas – Texas authorities, led by Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Texas National Guard, have achieved staggering results through Operation Lone Star. This multi-agency initiative aims to secure the state’s border, intercept illicit activities, and combat the transnational criminal organizations responsible for smuggling drugs, weapons, and people into the United States.
Significant Successes in Border Security and Fentanyl Seizures
Since its launch, Operation Lone Star has resulted in the apprehension of over 530,600 illegal immigrants and more than 50,000 criminal arrests, including over 43,000 felony charges. The operation has made substantial progress in addressing the fentanyl crisis by seizing over 622 million lethal doses of the synthetic opioid. This amount is enough to kill the combined populations of the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
“Every individual who is apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and the nation due to open border policies,” Texas officials emphasized.
Impact on Migrant Transportation and Illegal Crossings
The border security measures have also contributed to an 87% decrease in illegal crossings into Texas. With fewer illegal migrants entering the state, Texas has continued its transportation program, relocating migrants to sanctuary cities across the country. Since the program began, Texas has transported:
- Over 12,500 migrants to Washington, D.C.
- Over 45,900 migrants to New York City
- Over 36,900 migrants to Chicago
- Over 3,400 migrants to Philadelphia
- Over 19,200 migrants to Denver
- Over 1,500 migrants to Los Angeles
Filling Federal Gaps
Operation Lone Star serves as a state-led effort to address gaps left by federal policies. By interdicting illegal activity and seizing dangerous drugs, Texas continues to protect its communities and those across the nation. The mission underscores the state’s determination to combat drug trafficking and its deadly consequences while ensuring border security.
