Fort Worth moves forward with expanding green space as City Council approves land purchase for new park

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth City Council has taken a significant step toward expanding public green spaces by approving the purchase of 11.41 acres for the future Paloma Park. The land acquisition, valued at $2.99 million, aims to provide much-needed recreational space for residents in northwest Fort Worth.

Land Acquisition and Park Development Plans

The newly acquired property is located at 5610 Ten Mile Bridge and features a gently rolling landscape with scattered trees, making it an ideal site for a neighborhood park. As part of the acquisition agreement, Hayco Realty Ltd. is also donating 3.8 acres of land, an in-kind contribution valued at nearly $1.5 million.

Once developed, the park will be managed by the Park & Recreation Department (PARD) in accordance with the city’s Neighborhood and Community Park Dedication Policy and the Park, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan. These guidelines ensure that the city provides adequate parks and recreational areas to meet the needs of growing communities.

Addressing the Need for More Parks in Northwest Fort Worth

Before finalizing the purchase, PARD conducted an assessment of potential properties in northwest Fort Worth to determine the best location for parkland expansion. The newly secured land is in Council District 2 within Park Planning District 2, an area currently lacking sufficient neighborhood-based parks.

City officials emphasize that this acquisition aligns with long-term efforts to enhance community access to outdoor spaces, providing more opportunities for recreation and leisure activities.

With the land purchase now approved, Fort Worth residents can look forward to the development of Paloma Park, which will serve as a valuable recreational asset for the surrounding community.
