City of Fort Worth names new assistant city manager following internal recruitment process

Fort Worth, Texas – The City of Fort Worth is welcoming a new face to its senior leadership team, as City Manager Jay Chapa announced the appointment of Dianna Giordano as the newest assistant city manager. The announcement was made during the City Council work session on Tuesday, marking a significant internal promotion for a longtime human resources leader.

Chapa emphasized the strength of Giordano’s qualifications and the importance of her role in Fort Worth’s growing operations. “We conducted an internal recruitment for this coveted position and found Dianna to have the expertise and experience needed to lead effectively as the City continues to grow,” he said. “I am excited to welcome her to the City Manager’s Office and look forward to her continued work in this new role.”

A Strong Background in Public Sector HR

Giordano brings with her more than 25 years of leadership experience in human resources, having served as director of Human Resources and Civil Service for the City of Fort Worth since June 2021. Her extensive public sector background spans city and county governments, along with municipally owned water and electric utilities.

Throughout her career, Giordano has advised and collaborated with everyone from frontline employees to senior management. Her experience covers a wide range of responsibilities, including employee relations, workforce planning, safety programs, HRIS implementation, compensation strategies, and performance management.

“It’s been a privilege to work for the City of Fort Worth,” Giordano said. “I’ve been excited to be here since the first day I walked in. I look forward to serving in this new capacity and continuing to support the City, its residents and employees.”

New Responsibilities and a Legacy of Service

In her new position, Giordano will oversee a broad portfolio that includes Human Resources, Information Technology Solutions, Intergovernmental Relations, and CMO Administration. Her official start date as assistant city manager is Monday, April 7.

She will step into the role following the retirement of Interim Assistant City Manager Richard Zavala, who concluded his service with the city on March 28. Zavala leaves behind a legacy of more than 30 years in public service, most recently serving as director of Park & Recreation.

An interim HR director to replace Giordano in her previous role will be named at a later date. Fort Worth residents and employees can look forward to Giordano’s leadership as she helps guide city operations during a period of growth and transformation.
